It might be pretty lame for sound, but it is awesome for light.

When it launched the entire sky went bright. We watched from my front yard, we couldn't see it behind the trees. At ignition, .............HUGE ......FLASH..........and when we didn't see it climb up for a while, Me and my son both said that "maybe it exploded on the pad", but after a few seconds, we could see it climbing.

That was why we moved here.

>>One thing I've always wondered with the Delta IV-H is just how they can get away with having such tiny connecting struts on the strap on boosters?

The thrust loads are carried by the attach points at the aft end, just forward of the engines. The forward strut only provides tension to keep the booster stages aligned. Here's a picture that shows this well.

http://www.ulalaunch.com/launch/L26/DIVH_NROL26.jpg

That said, the loads that have to be transferred are less than the loads transferred by the Shuttle SRB's, since the strap-on boosters have less thrust but a considerably longer burn time (4 minutes and 5 seconds) than the shuttle solids. I was not able to see the booster stages separate, but apparently all went as planned. This remains the only rocket in the world to lift off solely on the thrust of hydrogen and oxygen. Three more D-IV launches are planned this year, I believe they include one heavy and two mediums. Of course, the most interesting question regarding this launch vehicle is whether it would be a superior choice for human spaceflight.
