I missed Jon Pertwee as the Doctor - I actually liked him best over and above Tom Baker,,,,The classical Master - his acting style was a little over the top for me...I always expected the psychotic laughter with organ music playing in the background every time he spoke... Now Devros in the beginning he was evil incarnate .....but not to highjack the thread ....bock to the rumours - did you notice when the Doctor(David Tennant) sent the body of the Master to the funeral pyre - that a woman's hand with red fingernail polish picked up the Master's ring.  That Donna Noble's character was wearing the same ring.....She has been infused with Time Lord genetics or at least imprinted upon.....hmmmm the Return of the Master may not be a rumour after all....ohh wait a minute were talking about the Doctor ..right then...sooo sorrry for digressing...David Morrisey in 2:1 favorite - I'm sorry I get flash backs of Tom Baker and his brother playing the role..I get the feeling that the scripts will be more campy than Intellectual with this character at the helm....not my fav...If anything I would love to see David stay for two more years...oh well   <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

Just Tennant?  Heh, that's nothing.  I've got most of the entire run of Doctor Who on video, minus the ones lost to the BBC's archive purge.  (Doctor Who wasn't supposed to have been purged, but somebody got a bit overzealous and several serials went into the incinerator before anyone realized.)  So if Smith isn't very good, I've got a fallback plan."Deadly Assassin" is apparently coming out on DVD this year.  I can't wait!  ;-)  That's one of my favorites.  It's a classic now, and vital to understanding the Time Lords -- but was really not well liked at the time, with fans castigating it for mucking around so much with the Doctor's story.  Funny how things repeat themselves, isn't it?  ;-)   <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> "People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink" </div>

Gimme a break.And it would have been the same for me had a black chap been cast as the Doctor. To me, it would be like making a movie about Zulu Warriors and having one or two of them be white.   Posted by dragon04</DIV> Why does the Doctor have to have a particular skin tone?  It's sad that color blind casting is often only recognized as color blind if everybody is white.  If anybody is a minority, they're in it for "diversity", it is often said, regardless of whether or not that was the actual reason they were cast.Truth is, according to Steven Moffat, the casting was entirely colorblind.  Age-blind too; he really wanted an older man for the role, but Smith impressed him.  And that's how it should be -- it should be about who can pull off the part.  The Doctor can change color; what's important isn't his age or race or even nationality (though I admit it would be very weird to have an American or Australian Doctor -- the Englishness of the Doctor is so potent that Scottish actor David Tennant just didn't feel right using his native accent).  What's important is whether or not he can pull off the role, and I think Paterson Joseph could've done it.  If you ever get a chance to see "Neverwhere", watch for him as the Marquis de Carabas.  Excellent performance, and in some ways, rather Doctorish.  For one thing, he bugs out his eyes exactly the same way as Tom Baker.  ;-)  He also delivers his lines in a similar way -- as if he's enjoying the way the words roll off his tongue.  He has a really marvellous voice. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> "People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink" </div>
