This is what I get in a close-up of the dunes in the image above.
Ron Bennett

There is quite a bit of familiarity with that dune structure and the one sitting in the bottom of the Endurance crater. Perhaps an interesting place to go next after examining the layered rock?

Fancy! something is similar to the scene on some coner of the Earth.

I don't think that those stones are fundamentally different from the stones they use in the south ouest of France to build houses.

Thanks for the info centsworth and rlb. I should pay more attention in class!

I wish I could remember
But my selective memory
Won't let me - Mark Oliver Everett

Ill start at the lander and try to find some of the
filtered ones on Spirits trip up to the Hills including Bonneville and post them here.

Here is one close to the lander.

2P129466606EFFL4M1

Ron Bennett

Here is a small dune by the lander. The coloration looks the same. I'll try to find larger ones
with more waves.

2P129304464EFFL4M1
Ron Bennett

More dunes by the Lander.

This one I brightened up a bit. Interesting rocks! Note I will be posting more images at my website
than I have here starting with the first 30 sols.

The images will be at least twice as large as the ones I posted here. I hope to modify my website
within the next couple of days, got to get rid of some old stuf.

2P127515474EFFL2M1

Ron Bennett

I'm not a geologist and so I would fall easily in any trap on that subject.Regarding your question, I don't think that there is a proven hydrology in those areas of Mars. But I strongly hope that they will find traces of water very soon. What a pity that Spirit and Opportunity can't dig deeply into the marsian soil.In any case, those images, scientifically reprocessed ( and congratulation once again for your work rlb), are great.I agree to say that the stones on Mars have an oxydation level that we don't encounter on Earth.

Thanks, your welcome.

Here is a little teaser of the Spirit landing site of the size of the images I am going to post on my website.
Ron Bennett

A dark pearl on a hill. It looks like it is carbon bases, another thought is that it is a meteorite, alien to an alien world.

2P147943419ESFL5M1
Ron Bennett
