There is no doubt that water is oozing onto the surface from pools, but the magnitude, depth, and duration eludes me. Titan should have some similarities in this regard, with sufficient surface pressure to boot.

This is an image I enhanced from one of the first flybys of Titan 07/04. Not sure what is causing the expansion of the atmosphere in the southern lower left corner??? It would have to be on a massive scale to be of a volcanic origin.

Ron Bennett

Here is another interesting find I posted on 07/12/04
Ron Bennett

That is interesting; That bright dot appears to be making the atmosphere boil, which is indicative of warmth, but how much warmer is the question. Geysers only need a temperature variance of a few degrees, and cryogenics are rather cold; however, the magnitude within a low pressure zone suggests to me, anyway, that those temperature variances are multiplied exponentially.

Here is a cross-sectional view of the atmospheric expansion seems to be in the south pole area. Note I corrected it for Saturn’s Axial tilt 26.73 degrees, Titan's Axial tilt is 0 degrees relative to Saturn.

Also note that Titans axial tilt may still be undefined and Cassini orbit relative to taking the image just happened to be close to Saturn’s axial tilt at the time the image was taken. Also look at the solar reflection off of Titan.

Ron Bennett

swampcat:

I posted a photo from the December 26 Titan flyby, with Saturn emerging from the back ground, in M & L, Cassini. The entire sequence is here:

http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/images/raw/raw-images-list.cfm?StartRow=49&cacheQ=1&browseLatest=0&storedQ=1146667

Any chance you could take a shot at a false color image of one of those? I need a new desktop background.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

"Any chance you could take a shot at a false color image of one of those?"

Sorry, telfrow. I just responded to this over in the Cassini thread. No problem.

It's such a compelling image, I'm hoping someone can do a color or false color of it. Maybe they'll post something on the site. I'll keep checking.

But thanks for considering it and responding.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

I gave it a good shot, not true color and had to work the RGB filters in over each other and fix some non-matched
areas because Cassini was in motion but here it is.
Ron Bennett

JPL just released a bunch of images (mostly of Rhea) so I expect to have some of those postable asap.

In the meantime...

The raw images for this color composite of Mimas were taken on March 20 from approximately 207,000km away. The raws of Rhea have a lot of data loss so I decided that they weren't worth posting.

Then this image of Enceladus showed up.
