Thanks swampcat for these color versions. They are intriguing, especially the "color" change along the "channels". I 've seen people associating them with "mist" in other forums (a wild assertion indeed !). It is too early though to have an explanation, I am sure JPL scientists will provide information as to what we see. It could be a shocker <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> I feel better than James Brown. </div>

However, just to set the record straight (and allow for the possibility that you were actually addressing me): All of the images I have posted here were created using the raw greyscale images from the Cassini-Huygens Raw Image Gallery and put together using Paint Shop Pro. Scientists have considered it very unlikely that Titan hosts life today, primarily because it is so cold (-289 degrees Fahrenheit, or -178 Celsius) that the chemical reactions necessary for life would proceed too slowly. Yet previously published data, along with new discoveries about extreme organisms on Earth, raise the prospect that some habitable locales may indeed exist on Titan. In a paper being presented at the Division for Planetary Sciences 2005 Meeting this week, a team of researchers from Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and Washington State University say that several key requirements for life now appear to be present on Titan, including liquid reservoirs, organic molecules and ample energy sources. Methane clouds and surface characteristics strongly imply the presence of an active global methane cycle analogous to Earth's hydrological cycle. It is unknown whether life can exist in liquid methane, although some such chemical schemes have been postulated. Hey rlb2, I hope you don't mind me giving you some constructive criticism, but on your RGB images you might try a bit of resizing on the greyscale images so that all 3 colors will register better. Because of the motion of the spacecraft and the target moon it doesn't always work (and isn't always necessary), but I've found that it often helps when the colors don't line up. Again, not trying to be negative.
