This is a very hopeful request,

I recently read The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jeremy Pournelle, and the sequel The Moat around Murcheson's Eye, as well as the Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton.

Both series deal with empires struggling to contain some form of large unusual problem (like a disease, or an alien invasion), and this is the style of story I am looking for. The greatest thing about these two series was that the containment was often if not always handled competenly, the security forces were organised, and there was an epic feel to the containment movements in all cases.

It's difficult to describe, but an example would be from the Night's Dawn trilogy, where an 'infected' individual was detected on a supposedly clean planet, and instead of attempting to arrest the suspect, or force the ship that the suspect was on to land, or resort to any other method that would preserve the lives of the other people on board, they recognize that the risk is too great and decided to simply vaporize the entire ship and everything around it.

If you know of any other books out there that are similar to what I have described, please let me know!

Cheers!!
