They sure are. I just like to load them and zoom in/out and pan around. This one kind of looks like an embryo of something.

Don't let who you are keep you from becoming who you want to be!

So it does look as if I had stumbled across something interesting!!

Its not often that we have that kind of resolution at the high latitudes on Mars. Thanks Abq-farside for your images.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. How about this pinhole.

Not sure what it really is but initially it looks like some type of hole but as you zoom in it appears to be maybe a crater with the lighting making it look a deep hole.
You can't zoom much more as you start to lose resolution.

Don't let who you are keep you from becoming who you want to be!

Hi abq_farside. I have no idea. Could it be a small deep crater???

HiRISE release: no 24.

Wednesday 2nd May 2007.

More potential landing sites fot the Mars Science Laboratory.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. MRO on the community DVD.

Some guys visiting here may know some of us are putting together a DVD of space missions and other space related content.

I have been busy producing features for the disc. So far i have done Mars Express, Spirit, Cassini, and i am in the middle of New Horizons right now. This will be ongoing allowing me to grab the latest images and add them up until the last possible moment before i make the DVD available to all here ( free of course )

My point for posting is, i can see a real problem with MRO. I am like a kid in a candy shop here, i have no idea what to put in or what to leave out. Every image is stunning! I could quite easily fill up a whole video DVD with these images ( still slide shows, and animated pans ). So far, initially anyway, space mission features are running between 20mins and 30mins on the disc.

Instead of me trying to decide what is best, interesting, or fascinating regarding MRO imagery. I wondered if you would like to suggest, or submit images for addition to the MRO segment.

Feel free to email me your crops, or to point me in the direction of the correct link to the image you want included. anthmartian@gmail.com

Initially, i will set about creating a 30 minute segment on MRO. With an updated feature in addition to take in image releases around the time the disc is finished.

If you know nothing of this project. You can visit the topic here.

http://uplink.space.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=sciastro&Number=693185&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! I agree the Face looks much more natural in the newest images, especially those from MRO, which I've discussed before, and have been studying the largest version of the new MRO image. The only caveat is that if, as argued by some, including me, the Face was something carved from an existing mesa, not "built" (as per Hoagland, and now highly degraded and damaged on the eastern side), then higher resolution images would still just show a natural-looking surface anyway. Any fine-scale artificial features may have eroded away a long time ago.

There was in-depth investigation of the Face by other respected academics and scientists such as Mark Carlotto, Horace Crater and Stanley McDaniel (NOT conspiracists, crackpots or scientifically illiterate by any means) who had presented compelling evidence for possible artificiality of this and other nearby formations (completely independently of Richard Hoagland, btw).

-----------------

The Meridiani Journal
a chronicle of planetary exploration
web.me.com/meridianijournal

Hi there. I think MRO has nailed the lid on this. The 'face' is nothing more than an eroded mesa. Nothing more, nothing less.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. I agree. First off i think MGS put the matter to rest some years ago. Then Mars Express did so further. MRO has without doubt proved it is a natural feature.

All this fuss because people cannot grasp the picture resolution of earlier missions.

It is like kids seeing faces on their wallpaper, or curtains.

But, if you think this is the end of it think again. I remember when the MGS images came back. many said those images were fake. NASA had the real data, and was not releasing it! You cannot win.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Let's not take this down that road.

This thread is for Mars Reconnaisance Orbiter Updates- not a discussion of the FOM.

There are plenty of other threads here to address that issue. Please use them to continue this discussion.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

I am sorry. I thought it was in response to a guy responding to an image posted here.

Not in the least interested in having a discussion about it anyway luckily.

Won't happen again.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Ok, understood, although I'm not the one who started the Face discussion here, or replied to it initially on the previous page of the thread. I just didn't agree with the inappropriate labels, imo, being put on some people who did do serious research into it. I am personally very much interested in all of the MRO imagery, and always check the weekly releases.

-----------------

The Meridiani Journal
a chronicle of planetary exploration
web.me.com/meridianijournal

Finally got a download to finish for release 25 but the image just comes up blank. Not sure why this J2000 image cannot be viewed but the others can.

Don't let who you are keep you from becoming who you want to be!

Agreed. I tend to find the layered regions more interesting. "Galle Crater" is an outstanding example.

It's obviously one of the silos used to launch the cylinders. We need to start watching for bright flashes on the planet.

Vote Libertarian

Has anybody else been able to view the J2000 images of late. I downloaded Candidate Cavern Entrance Northeast of Arsia Mons J2000 image and it just comes up black, as with the last 2 or 3 I have downloaded. I am using the ExpressView plug-in and it worked pretty well for the first couple of images I downloaded.

Don't let who you are keep you from becoming who you want to be!
