http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/constellation/multimedia/orion_contract_images.html
These have been available on other forums.

Shows
the lastest 606 configuration
the "Minotaur" LAS test vehicle
The encapsulated service module
the four service module propellant tanks
The enlarged BPC to allow a APAS to LIDS adapter to fly on first two mission to the ISS.
The SM RCS clusters have no lateral but 6 - 25 lb fore and aft thrusters. The thruster are offset by 6-8 degrees, so by firing a fore and aft thruster, a lateral thrust is generated.
4 150 lb thrusters are mounted on the aft of the SM to provide a backup to the main engine

I always asked myself why some rockets have black squares on it, like the Titan II, Saturn V and also the Ares V.
Do they have some kind of function or is it just decoration?

And thanx for posting, I hadn't seen most of them.

They are roll patterns, so that roll rates can be calculated from video

Thanks.

Been real busy this past semester and didn't have much time for posting (or much else, for that matter).

So, again we are defeated. From other links I found this one of the inside of the Orion mockup. Note the scale relative to the guys standing in it; this is not a cramped Apollo.

In reply to:

Caris A. (Skip) Hatfield, manager, Orion Project, and Cleon Lacefield, Lockheed Martin Orion Program manager, are pictured in the Orion cockpit at the Lockheed Martin Exploration Development Laboratory.

Okay upuntill seeing that picture... I thought Gemini was spacious enough and the Shuttle was just overkill... guess NASA actually wants more headroom for guys like me (6' 2" tall lol think I read somewhere I'm too tall to qualify for astronaut) Wasen't Apollo fairly spacious already?

Up to 2x as many passengers as Apollo. Check this big pic

Interior....

Note the couches; they're quite thin & fold down maximizing space.

Imagine how roomy that would be with a 3-4 man crew, presuming the don't shoehorn in a ton of extra gear.

Wow, that picture gives a good idea how big it really is.
But does it really need to be that big? I mean, why don't they use some kind of Soyuz structure, so they don't have to take all that space back to Earth.
That would make the Orion a lot cheaper I think.

Those pics only show the launch and entry configuration. It will change onorbit as Apollo did

good pics. Really enjoyed the cutaways showing interior of the capsule.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

If you look at the cutaways you will see that the cargo cabinets are flush with the back of the seats. The space where these guys are standing will be taken up by cabinets. So it really does not show the size of space available.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

what it really needs in one of those cargo racks is a toilet. Otherwise it will be all-diapers from launch through ISS docking.

The capsule is really large, even with those racks filled.

J

We need a first generation of pioneers.

> there is one, opposite of the galley

Are you sure? Last I heard there were no toilet plans.

If you have a link to a labelled graphic, that would be ideal.

J

We need a first generation of pioneers.

Isn't there any diagram available saying what the cabinets are?

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

Inside the CEV does look nice and large. Does anyone know how the total usable interior volume of the CEV compare to Shuttle?
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

Dragon: 14 cubic meters

I'd think that's cramped for seven people.

It is cramped, but in that configuration it is only an LEO taxi. Elon has hinted the Dragon will be capable of Lunar trips.
