<p><BR/>Replying to:<BR/><DIV CLASS='Discussion_PostQuote'>June 24th is my birthday, and I can think of no better present than for them to shut&nbsp;their critics&nbsp;up <br /> Posted by docm</DIV></p> <p>Actually, what is indeed very good is to see Elon Musk himself become more of a realist (his own best naysayer?).&nbsp; He now realizes (unlike some of his more cheerleader like supporters) that being a success in the business of placing payloads into orbit is not anywhere as easy as he once thought it was going to be.&nbsp; There is NO &ldquo;UNDU&rdquo; button on a rocket headed for space!!</p> <p>If those of us that actually dedicated ourselves to building the hardware for the space program are so realistic as to be called naysayers, then so be it!&nbsp; This particular naysayer would be just overjoyed to have spacex as will as t-space, Bigelow, and all the other pure private efforts become more than successful! &nbsp;</p> <p>However, what we don't do is to knock those companies such as Boeing, LM (and now the melding of the two into ULA).&nbsp; Further, neither do we knock them for the high costs, this IS an expensive business.&nbsp; The main reason for the high cost is the fact that such launches have absolutely NO room for failure.&nbsp; That kind of quality assurance control will always be somewhat expensive.&nbsp; Of course, such companies as Boeing and LM&nbsp;also HAVE to make profits as they have to answer to literally millions of stockholders.&nbsp; You can NOT have launch failures without cutting into profits. Again, if admitting this is being a naysayer, then I guess I and those with true experience in the industry are guilty as charged.&nbsp;</p> <p>Sorry, (and I don&rsquo;t take it personally) if that upsets some people, but it IS the truth!! </p> <p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
