NASA TV still running Expedition 15/16 handover video.

No indication yet when the FRR News conference will take place.

I will monitor, and of course post "scribblenotes" upon completion of the news conference.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Still no sign of the presser, for those monitoring this thread for a heads-up.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I wish this argument would work at car inspection time. "These bald tires have never caused any trouble before."

what does everyone make of it being 6pm and not a hint of the conference yet? You think there's more of a discussion going on than we originally thought?

I do wish they'd get on with it though....

Well I imagine there's a very thorough discussion of the concerns with this flight.

Remember, at the end, eveyone has to "sign off" on the launch plan.

Should be an interesting News Conference, as it's almost 7PM EDT

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Ive seen the sheet they "sign off".

There are about 30 signatures on it. It would take a long time just for them to all sign the thing

the people they interview for this "nasa edge" show amaze me... "what does NASA stand for?" Navy, Air, Space Aeronautics? what???

can we get something a little less mind-numbing please? maybe the FRR? how many of us space junkies are biting our nails to at least know the details? not necessarily if it's flying on the 23rd or not, but any "hits" the missions got against it...

A five hour delay, that's good going, even for them. Maybe they got everybody out to the Pad to give the stack a push back in!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

a 5 hour delay, that's more than enough time to get the stack back in AND push Atlantis up the ramp.

Well, that was fairly interesting. Seems like there's a fair bit of disagreement among the engineers, even with the Go for flight. Mind you, with the goalposts not firmly rooted in the ground on this issue, it's a bit hard to say how large or small the margin for error is right now.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

and not a speck of dirt on any of 'em....

I know its an entirely different beast, but where I'm from, it's expected for the mechanics to tell Maintenance Control what the issue is, Maintenance Control verifies, and the mechanics fix the issue along with, or under the supervision of M.C. Why, oh why does this have to be so much different? *grumbles*

Whoa! Just heard the explanation of the problem for the CBS's guy's question. What an amount of detail! That goes far beyond what I've heard before. IMHO NASA here goes far beyond any aircraft or airline organization would do. (CT scans, thermal scans....)

Great job NASA.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

That's because this is an experimental vehicle and finally (since Columbia) NASA treats it that way. So you measure everything. They haven't got enough experience with it yet to know how much (to take my previous comment) driving a car with bald tires is dangerous.

In reply to:

They haven't got enough experience with it yet to know how much (to take my previous comment) driving a car with bald tires is dangerous.

That's a pretty good analogy. Because if you tires are bald the rules change in how you drive it, like driving on ice. The panel stated about the rules and that they are learning in this situation.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

So one unanswered question. Are we still go for the 23rd?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters.
