Is there a book by Asimov or Clarke that you think should go onto the big or small screen? If so, what is it?

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

Childhood's End

The rest of the Space Odyssey series

Hopefully Rama will finally get made

Also, with an extensive rewrite, A Fall of Moondust. Most of the science is outdated, but at its core is a good space disaster flick.

So, again we are defeated. This victory belongs to the farmers, not us.

-Kambei Shimada from the movie Seven Samurai

Big screen, TV series, or made for TV movie? I figure there is enough material for several seasons worth of TV series or several sequels of movies which get rewritten heavily from the book form. If you have both read the book version and watched the movie version of Tom Clancy's novel Sum of All Fears, you know what I am talking about.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

The problem with Rama is that people would hate the sequels. But you need a trilogy. (Remember why Gentry Lee wrote those sequels.) So do the sequels replace the Gentry Lee novels?

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

Childhood's End was, at one time, going to be made into a movie. I saw the artists renderings of set-pieces, characters and locations many years ago in an old Starlog magazine. Sadly, it never came to be.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Another vote for Childhood's End. And perhaps Clarke's Earthlight.

Asimov's The Stars, Like Dust might be interesting. And The Martian Way

Wow, a Cameron "Childhood's End." ...

That would be darn awesome. I'd pay double to see that.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

I'm with docm - Foundation! I've been waiting for decades to see a movie series.

Clarke's "In the Light of other days" would be a very sexy, youtube-style movie.

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.

The only problem I see with a FOUNDATION movie is that if you examine the novel closely, it is mostly composed of long segments of talking heads. The action segments are few and far in between.

This does not translate into an exciting movie.

Any of the Robot novels would work.

The Caves of Steel
The Naked Sun
The Robots of Dawn

All of them were basically Whodunits with all that goodly villainy, treachery, action and intrigue.

"2012..
In reply to:

3001 Odyssey Four

Skip it. Clarke threw out too much of the previous books in the series. In the older books, Bowman and Hal were not confined to anything. In 3001, they were confined to the monolith on Europa.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

The Songs of Distant Earth by Clarke would make an interesting movie.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
