tel, Jon,Max, goodmorning all.............

tel, you said, "But I am glad you brought that area up. I’ve been looking at it. Tracings aside, I’d like Jon’s take on what we’re seeing here."

Gentlemen, what are your takes on what we're seeing here? These two "items", to me, next to the D&M entrance, are the MOST interesting annomalies in all of the Cydonian region.

Hi, Jon..........

Etymology facinates me. The way words mutate over centuries, from culture to culture, language to language, is extremely telling, imo.

Take the hindi/sanskrit book Kama Sutra. Sutra means book. Kama refers to love-making, sex. So the Kama Sutra is the instruction book of Tantric sex ritual. The Spanish word for bed is "cama".

As 'Fr. Guido Sarducci' said, "Coinsidenza?"

I am most facinated with the etymology of the word "Cydonia" and the Egyptian name for the Sphinx. I once heard that the Arabic word was "Abu Abbas", 'Father of Terror'. But it is the older Bedhouin name, Arq-Uhr that really facinates me.

Off topic, yes, but if anyone is interested.............;)

Colin:

The projector bulb here at the training blew, so while we wait for AV to bring another one... best I could do. High pass at max. Didn't want to use the unsharp filter, but I can when I get back to the hotel. Initially, the most striking thing about this form, to me, is that it has elements very similar to the DM. I will call some of these, 'ribs,' though I mean nothing like 'human ribs.' They are ridges.

Here's a high res crop of R0700422, showing the feature in greater detail. OK, OK, Telfrow has shown me the way. I know I said I wouldn't comment about this whole Cydonia Mentality because it just ticks me off. Sorry, but I do believe in science. But Telfrow has managed to keep his sense of balance and humor about it, so . . . I stand corrected.

I loved the driveway pebble thing, what a sweet counter. I know it's had to have been said and done before I got whiff of this, but since everyone keeps posting sinister Martian landscapes -- somebody has got to have a folder of geological Earth analogues on their hard drive. You know, Mt. Everest looking like a factory, Grand Canyon as a drawing of a face, yada yada.

Anyone? Anyone?
Yep, we've tried that. See Part 3, Pages 8 and 9. (I'll bump it up to make it easier to find.)

Found a photo here:

http://earth.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/efs/photoinfo.pl?PHOTO=STS61A-36-97

You can clearly see half a face...so we mirrored both sides and found a goat on one side and an alien on the other. And we overlaid Torun's pentagon on the "goat side." We've also drawn a pentagon on a starfish on the ocean bottom and shown it's relationship to surrounding features. We've drawn twenty degree angles...you name it.

Edit: Can't bump it...I forgot - it's locked. Part three is on page two of Seti.
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

I once heard that the Arabic word (for the Sphinx) was "Abu Abbas", 'Father of Terror'.

Actually, Zen, I believe it is Abu al-Hôl, which translates "Father of Terror." As for the Bedouin you reference, you need to provide an alternate spelling or more information.

Off topic? Yes, it is. But that's really nothing different, is it?

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yeild. - Tennyson

Thanks, Telfrow. Do remember seeing that one I think, and I'll take a look back into the thread if my keyboard fingers don't start bleeding first.

I've got to believe there are at least as many natural "civilizations" all over our own planet. It would be complicated by more colors to be sure, it's easier to fill in your blanks if you're dealing with monochrome, but then again Earth is larger. I know, I'll start at Mt. Ararat and look at Noah's Ark!

Mebbe I'll make it a project to peruse and catalogue terran geologies in my copious free time.

Ha.

Zen:

Try here:

http://www.msss.com/moc_gallery

The only reason I found the other iamges was because I'd saved "Face" images on my portable hard drive.
