Seeing it with the people standing next to it, that thing is alot bigger then I thought it'd be. Can't wait to see it finally fly.

""Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein"

Interesting that the ATV uses MMH and MON (modified oxides of nitrogen?) while the Russian segment uses UDMH and N2O4. Four different hypergolic propellants on one vehicle. The Shuttle of course uses yet anotehr combination, MMH and N2O4.

MON = Mixed Oxides of Nitrogen
http://www.astronautix.com/props/monmmh.htm

Surprising how much MMH costs (as per that link). Accounting for inflation, the price per kilo has nearly doubled since '59.

It is interesting the various propellants being lofted. Is this uncommon or relatively routine?

Curious, what is the minimum amount of time that is required between STS-122 launch and ATV launch?

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

"Curious, what is the minimum amount of time that is required between STS-122 launch and ATV launch?"

There is no minimum in the usual sense. The ATV can loiter before docking up to something like 28 days. And it will go through some testing for some number of days. So technically they could launch the same day or within a week or two of each other. The bigger issue is that they both use TDRS and there is a limited number of antennae available. 1E was going to test a virtual space craft concept for ATV where ISS uses the S-band part of an antenna and the Shuttle simultaneoulsy uses the K band so ATV used use a second antenna. In addition, you have the fact that all the dynamic (docking, undocking, loss of control) was done assuming no ATV so that would have to be redone. The next biggest constraint would be the sleep shift of the ISS crew between dockings and some time off between the two.

Technically that is not official yet. IN the review last week part of ESA said Feb 27 and part, inlcuding Arianspace, said March 8. ESA has an action to figure it out and it should be decided tomorrow. Likely it will be March 8 because procedures are not ready.

Jules Verne will be parked 1200 miles ahead of ISS while waiting for Endeavour to leave. Roughly, how far apart is that time-wise with a fly over? I know the shuttle typically parks 20-40 miles away after undocking while they prepare for de-orbit. That's a seperation of only a few seconds and a few dozen degrees as you look up at the sky.
