Recently a well known movie blogger got a look at the costume to be used in Captain America: The First Avenger. He couldn't share any photo data, but managed to get artist concepts from readers based on his descriptions. He says the below is very close save for some details of the straps. As expected a very WW-II look with a military-style pocket belt. He says the shield is very close.

Enjoy...

Re: Captain America: First Avenger - ACTUAL costume

Looks like the artwork above was very close!

Below is actual production artwork;

The horizontal white stripes on the first pic look better. Other than that, the official one is pretty good..

To me it looks like the Ultimate Captain America, which is fine since that's the way the Marvel produced films have been going.

I thought the early costume was supposed to be as close as possible to wearing a Stars & Stripes? Or is this not that one?

This is more like the uniform in The Ultimates story line; re-imagined, more WW-II inspired gear like the pocket belt, helmet more functional. Red body/flag stripes via the harness.
