Considering that the aliens that we would get any chance to communicate with will probably be more advanced than we are, and they would be intending to communicate with us, I expect that they would make it as easy as possible for us.

There have been many attempts to communicate with animals. With somewhat dubious results. Sometimes we try to learn their language, whether sounds or motions. Now that people are thinking that they can use "AI" to learn animal languages, we are running a risk of thinking we understand more than we really do - and that animals are understanding us more than they really do.
