"A rock of twenty feet in diameter and with enough velocity behind it, it will not only light up the whole neighborhood, it will make the neighborhood disappear as well".

Do not feed the troll.

bigbrain - This evening take a stone and sling it against a wall. You will be able to lighten all the street.

If I could throw it fast enough it would, indeed, light up the entire street. What about this do you not understand? I explained, in simple terms, what caused the the explosion during the impact. This applies equally to your rock+wall analogy.

You didn't respond to the points in my post explaining how the kinetic energy from the impact created the explosion/light observed. Care to explain to us how this could not have happened?
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

bigbrain---Your physics teacher must be a great idiot: he tells you fairy tales.

sky---LOL!!! It is clearly evident that it is YOU, who are telling fairy tales. After all, you have made claims that a flying vehicle can't hover safely if the engine is located on the bottom of the craft rather than in the nose and the Delta Clipper, the X-13 and other hover-capable vehicles that do not have propellers in their noses have proven you wrong time and again.

Evidence #2
"Starlight Star Bright, No stars i saw that night"
With such great and detailed pictures of a comet, you'd think there would be somthing visible in the background of all the pictures, you know, like stars, if i can pict out individual particle sprewed from the crater, i should be able to make out atleast 1 star.
In the event of a full scale nuclear war or NEO impact event, there are two categories of underground shelters available to the public, distinguished by depth underground: bunkers and graves...

Lets take a high velocity gas gun as an example, which are capable of projecting a missile with a mass up to 25kg at any speed up to 300ms^-1, which is very very fast, and when the impact on the target there is an impact, and an explosion, but no flash.
In the event of a full scale nuclear war or NEO impact event, there are two categories of underground shelters available to the public, distinguished by depth underground: bunkers and graves...

There's a detailed explanation in one of these threads around here. (Moon Hoax thread)

The exposure was set for brighter objects than the faint stars in the background. The starlight simply didn't have time to register in the pictures. If exposure had been set so you could see all the faint stars in the background, the image would have been overburdened by the light reflecting off Tempel 1 and the light from the impact would have "whited out" the entire image.

Along with bigbrain, you can try a simple experiment at home.

1) At night where it is dark (no bright streelights etc), go stand in front of your car and turn on the headlights. Walk closer to the headlight angling yourself so your eyes are on a direct course for it. Keep getting closer. How long does it take before you can't see anything but the overwhelming light?

2) Now, after your eyes have re-adjusted from the bright light, take your previous starting position. Close your eyes enough so that you can just barely see. Move along the same path towards the headlight. As you get closer, it will take longer for you to loose the detailed shape of the headlight.

3) With your eye's "squinted" have someone turn on the Hi-Beam feature of your headlight to simulate the impact of Deep Impact on Tempel 1.

Now, with all that, it's pretty easy to see that the right exposure is fairly important if you want to get a clear image isn't it?
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Yeah, the impact flash that shouldn't have happened, and which if as powerful as you say, would have take up the whole picture.
In the event of a full scale nuclear war or NEO impact event, there are two categories of underground shelters available to the public, distinguished by depth underground: bunkers and graves...

bigbrain - ... and you are not able to change exposure of your camera.

There was no need for Deep Impact to take pretty pictures of the stars in the background of it's view of Tempel 1. Besides, the longer exposure time necessary would probably have rendered images that weren't really useful anyway. Tempel 1 would have been a pretty bright object considering how close Deep Impact was. The stars in the background would have been faint and washed out from the overexposure of the closeby comet.

Got your headlights on yet?
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Even at extreme speeds, impacts do not result in flashes, they result in explosion, but no flashes,This is evident during high velocity gas gun tests, and nasa should have known this, so the wouldn't have to mess with the camera exposure, but, it makes for a covienent excuse for the lack of stars.
In the event of a full scale nuclear war or NEO impact event, there are two categories of underground shelters available to the public, distinguished by depth underground: bunkers and graves...

You are too idiot if you think that caricature of a plane can fly vertical.

Try to answer my question:

you are going to go to the moon with lunar module.

What would intelligent people do before going there?

They would test lunar module here, on the earth.

Nasa buffoons have never tested lunar module on the earth.

Would you have done the same too?

So, that is an additional, large amount of light that would have had to be compensated for in a long exposure.

Regarding gas-gun tests. How much mass and velocity is involved in these tests? What is the material impacting against? How do you know there is no light emitted from the impact?

I'm not saying that every impact has enough energy to bump electrons around. However, if you've got enough kinetic energy to generate enough heat to cause an actual, real, explosion, you've probably got enough energy to bump an electron around and emit a photon.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...
