If it were within a closed system defined by itself, then that would have been alive, and the expanding by itself would have been alive wouldn't it? It would need some form of pump. The external help would be initiated by a pump. This pump (heart) maintains the body, which enabled the body or flesh and blood to "Squeeze" air into the membrane. The linear source of this energy, is being displaced by a force. The initiation of energy, no matter what form it may be, would expand this membrane.

We always walked on water, like skating!

Let's think about 3 sizes of "stuff"; a marble, a boulder and a small planet. Obviously the planet sized chunk of "stuff" will exert a stronger attractive force (that I'd call gravity) than the marble sized chunk will, no matter what the "stuff" is.

Now let us think about 3 types of "stuff"; aluminium, iron and lead. At any of the given sizes above (but keeping all materials at the same size) the lead thingee will exert more gravity that will the iron thingee which in turns exerts more gravity than the aluminium thingee will. Yet if I take marble sized pieces of each material and hold them up to an ordinary magnet, only the iron marble is attracted. So it would seem to me that magnetism and gravity are completely different things. More "stuff" gets me more gravity no matter what the "stuff" is but only the right "stuff" is magnetically attractive.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

"What I mean by alive is that the object is not inert. When something goes forth and back, restrain and constrict, unsqueeze then squeeze. Then it's alive." - Aaupaaq

Your definition of "alive" is very broad. Just because something moves does make it alive. There are other requirements for something to be called alive... it has to consume resources (eat), reproduce (it has to have the capability to make more of itself), grow (increase in size, complexity or maturity) and has to respond to stimuli. a_lost_packet_ has beaten your other points into the ground, quite effectively...

Sermo datur cuntis; animi sapientia paucis

Speech is given to many; intelligence to few
