They have said that the computers were up for 7min this morning, so they put the power in a better state while they could (so I think the progress is on station power, even though the computers are back down again). They have not had to use the shuttle trusters lately, they are in a pretty stable config.

They CAN undock in the current state. It would saturate the CMGs, and then they could consider using the progress to de-saturate.

MW will have more/better notes, I'm sure.

So this is Russian software written by Russian tech guys? That makes it a little harder for nasa to figure out what the hell has happened, if they didnt write it themselves

I've seen the end of the MSB, they don't call it a too critical problem, or it least one that can be solved.
The biggest concern is the attitude control.

NASA isn't really working on that part anyways. It's the Russians job to fix the any problem with their code. NASA is of course supporting with whatever the Russians need, but they have programmers to look at that code (and it's possible that their are standards in place that require code to be in english)

my scribblenotes. Thanx erioladastra,and s_g.

Bill Gerstenmeier on the heating pad.

These are my version of the comments, not quotes. With the P6 array now retracted, could they take the newly installed array offline to try and isolate the problem? Or wouldnt there be enough power to the station then?

Good point that I forgot to mention, thanx.
In the MSB, BG mentioned that that most Russian systems can operate either in a computer controlled or manual mode. What a great idea!!
So other than for Guidance/ navigation, a lot of critical systems can be run manually, so it is certainly not a crisis.

In a worst case, they could probably even do manual CMG desaturation.

That's why BG said chance of abandonment is "very remote".

Get some rest erioladastra!!!!!!!!!!!1

But the Krell forgot one thing John. My guess is that they could take it offline long enough to isolate the problem.

They would have to ration power very carefully if it had to be left offline for more than a few hours.

This is just based on what I understand of the layout, I am not an expert.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I don't know what power requirements that vehicle has for an emergency re-entry, but it doesn't bear thinking about that its batteries go flat in the course of trying to rescue these errant Russian C&C systems.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Nothing indicating that it is back up again, on NASA TV or any of the normal space news sites. I would guess they are reporting old news (they probably just looked at SFN, which has that as the top item )

Each Soyuz has its own solar panels, but I would not be surprised if they don't work very well when docked, due to being at the wrong angle or in shadow. Are they even enough to fully recharge the internal batteries?

Sorry, like me who doesn't know all the acronyms, I meant to post that.

It's Control Momentum Gyroscopes.

Basically, by accelrating and decelrating gyros in different planes, you can transfer the momentum, and keep the station, well, stationary

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Thanks MW. Trying to write this story for the layman was a challenge this morning at work. Unfortunately, it wasn't my headache. It was given to one of the newbie writers. But the good news was that I was Associate Producer, so I cleaned it up nice before air.

But figuring out how to explain these latest developments tomorrow will be a cluster-eff. Especially for our viewers. lol

Do Nasa know if the computer issue is a failure of the hardware/software, or if they have just shutdown to protect themselves? Similar to how home PC's do

Triple hardware failure possible but unlikely, status briefing in 30 min or so.

There saying now on nasa tv that the power is sensitive to noise (not sure how that works) and the connecting of the new arrays may have caused that noise

Houston telling crew power suppies to puters are sensitive to noise, first noted annomally noted at time of panel power connection even though no power applied. Talking about a sneak ground loop and prepping crew to get a scopemeter ready to take readings, a heads up fr tracking down the problem
