Hi Spacefire.

Might not be space movie, but I just say "Von Helsing"

the mind utterly boggles, at how inept, how very very poor, this "Movie" was.

It wasn't even bad in a FUNNY sort of way, it was just TOTALLY unwatchable. How can a movie have a werewolf, vampires, and a Frankenstiens monstor, and yet STILL be completely unwatchable?.

I honestly think one of our local amatuer drama groups, could make a better movie.

-10 out of 10

“My Science Project” was a horrible movie. I cringe every time it comes on WGN.

Spaceballs. My GOD, how lame. Beyond lame, really. And proof that the moon IS made of cheese.

The Last Starfighter wasn't exactly a masterpiece either.
"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".

There are only two movies that I can think of that I have seen all the way through, without watching them the whole way through, but just parts at a time, (it was all I could stand). I get to watching it and then say change the channel, that's enough. Spaceballs was one and Dumb and Dumber was the other. Now Spaceballs is funny to think about now, but that Dumb movie is another thing all together. But I have seen "Bio Dome" all the way through.

Well school is starting and its time to get back to the real world. I get kind of busy between school, work and trying to start a new bookkeeping business here in town, and you people are a good distraction from all of this reality some of us have to deal with in life.
Keep up the good work, and JonClarke, keep that supersonic book reading going.

Well, yes, but that was the POINT of it, it was a satire of SciFI movies, Mel Brooks all the way. Just like Blazing Saddles was a satire of Westerns.

The jokes were DESIGNED to be lame.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of watching the proposed sequel to Space balls if it were ever made, in light of the horrible commercializing of “Star Wars” by George Lucas; “Space balls 2: the search for more money.”
Sweet! Seeing a good satirizing of Jar-Jar alone might be worth the price of admission.

With all the new people around here now, and the fact that in a couple of months it will be around two years since we visited this thread, how about any new or old entries into the lamest movie you have EVER seen, or a book for that matter?

Now this is not a space movie, but thought of it while re-reading this thread. How about, the latest Rocky the Flying Squirel(?) and Bulwinkle the Moose? As a kid, I really liked all of those episodes, and found many of them on tape some time back. Some of my favorite parts to that series was Peabody and Sherman, and Fractured Fairy Tales.

But that latest movie was so wooden and dead no wonder it was just a two dimensional show. But another one I did enjoy and CANNOT find was Boris and Natasha. This is a live action show and did a great job in developing the characters. I have been to Blockbuster and several other places and have struck out.

Battlefield Earth

One of the few LRH books that is worth reading, and they completely and totally butchered the movie.
"Time exists so that everything doesn't happen at once" Albert Einstein

I was surprised to see movies like Day the Earth Stood Still, Them, Mission to Mars, Red Planet, Independence Day, and Armageddon show up under "lamest" Space movies. Goes to show that there is a very-wide spectrum of opinions when it comes to SF.

There was some one--a while back that said the lamest SF was virtually everything produced by the SF Channel--I strongly second that with a couple of exceptions. It's amazing how bad the SF Channel is--what a missed opportunity. Most of what’s on the SF Channel is so bad, it’s un-watch-able.

BTW, I loved Plan 9 From Outer Space.......
The new BSG is the only thing on the "stargate channel" worth watching anymore

I am not sure why "The day the earth stood still" is said by several to be lame. Maybe some can't cope with any point or moral to a story, I certainly did not find it heavy or over done.

The others you mention deserve all the flak they get!

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

If anyone thinks "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is lame, then methinks they missed the point, or are into CGI and can't get interested.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Well I don't know if it THE lamest space movie but lame it was and I can't believe nobody has mentioned "Saturn 3". Farrah would have had to romp around naked in every scene to make this loser semi-palatable. Alas no such luck.

EDIT: I note that IMDB has a list of their 10 worst "scifi" films. Most seemed more "monster" than "space" related but 1 looked germane .... Wam Bam Thank You Spaceman sounds just pornographic enough to be worth a look.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

Because Mission to Mars was just plain dopey. I still watched it though.

Tim Robbin's face freezing though was a cause for unintentional humor. For some reason, that scene reminded me of Ted Williams.

I thought Mission to Mars was pretty good. Nothing wrong with breaking the cliche that the aliens are always bad and evil.

I know this won't score me any points, but I've always thought that Star Wars, although nice for kids--like Harry Potter, was pretty bad. The first one reminded me of the Muppet Show. The stories are cowboy and indians in space. And there's nothing scientific at all. Lucas called it space fantasy not science fiction.

"Nothing wrong with breaking the cliche that the aliens are always bad and evil."

Overlooking the fact that the aliens killed almost all the first mission.

Almost ever cliche written was in that film - dumb, incompetent foreigners, Americans save the day, an Iwo Jima like flag raising, the whole aliens on Mars thing (it would be nice to have a film where there are no aliens on Mars). Plus bad acting, bad SFX, bad sound effects, plot, very bad science.... Shall I go on?

Did I mention I did not like this movie? What is particular annoying is that these days people should know better than make rubbish like this. This was a bad 60's film made in the 90's.

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Hmm, I would have to say Moonraker, and more recently, Armageddon. I just can't watch either without laughing.
