Can you believe they're actually planning a remake of this?

The Day the Earth Stood Still Remake Coming

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Someone apparently thinks it will make money so I'm not suprised. They remade "War Of The Worlds" with Tom Cruise in it, so nothing is sacred now.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Although I am annoyed they would mess with a classic like DTESS, I am eager to see the new version of When Worlds Collide.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

That makes sense. TDTESS is a mind movie, whereas When Worlds Collide probably would benifit from special effects in the 00's

But the Krell forgot one thing John. MeteorWayne, think who it was that said he was looking forward to watching "Worlds Collide". I don't think he is going the "Special Effects" route, more like the snuffiest of snuff movies.

Please review the Aristocrats thread for further inspiration on what might be done to Mr. Cruise for our base amusement . . . .

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Actually, though I am not any sort of appologist for the escaped lunatic that is T.C., the modernisation and re-scripting of WotWs was better than I feared it would be, not that bad a movie, really. imnsho.

I Will watch any movie where T.C. comes to grief with said barbed-wire enema though.

If someone was doing a remake of a '50's film, I think "Forbidden Planet" might work if done as a very dark, psychological and erotic drama. The original was pretty 'dark' for it's time.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

That's going to be tough to remake. So many of the premises from that movie are dated today, although I think the movie still holds up well. Hard to believe the same guy who made 'Day The Earth Stood Still' also made 'West Side Story'.

You'd think if they were looking to 50s style sci-fi remakes - they'd consider Forbidden Planet over this.

If you think that's unnecessary, take a look at this piece of remake garbage.

Hollywood is remaking Capricorn One.
Little red lies
Hollywood is remaking Capricorn One. The original writer and director of the 1978 movie, Peter Hyams, is apparently producing the remake. Peter Buchman, who wrote Jurassic Park III (the one with the pterodactyls and William H. Macy) and the screenplay for Eragon, is signed on as the writer, and the movie will be directed by David Dobkin, who directed Shanghai Knights and Wedding Crashers. The project is currently called Capricorn Two and is being produced for Regency Films, with shooting scheduled to begin later this year

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. Great, that is all we need. After we went to the Moon people said it was a hoax. Now will have people believing missions to Mars will be fake even before we go.

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Going back to "The Day the Earth Stood Still", my biggest dread is how they'll realize Gort.

And only a fool of a director would want to compete with Robert Wise....

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
