Callisto. <br /><br />Dusty craters. <br /><br />There is a landslide in the crater at the bottom right. Hi Nimbus.<br /><br />Thank you very much. <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" /><br /><br />What are your main areas of interest?<br /><br />This sort of feedback make my efforts seem very worthwhile.<br /><br />Please keep checking this thread.<br /><br />I have & have access to more very rarely seen images & will do more later when <br />I have time.<br /><br />I just wanted to share these & I am also researching them. I will probably edit the texts<br />on the existing posts above, when I have assimilated the information (like The Borg) <img src="/images/icons/crazy.gif" /> .<br /><br />I have enjoyed doing this & Ganymede & Callisto are often overlooked in favour of their <br />more exciting & active inner neighbours, Io & Europa.<br /><br />BTW I am trying to pursue further Io studies, with getting a lander / orbiter mission approved, although technically it <br />is very difficult due to enormous radiation doses.<br /><br />My renewed interest was partially sparked by H2Ouniverse (Joel) who was very kind <br />enough to tip me off about a future proposed Ganymede orbiter. Callisto. <br /><br />Dusty craters. <br /><br />Close up of the aforesaid mentioned landslide in the crater. <br /><br />The surface gravity on Callisto is 11.66% of that on Earth, or just a shade over one ninth. <br /><br />Even allowing for that, slumping material can still fall pretty quickly & gather momentum. <br /><br />This landslide is at most a few hundred metres long, (exact scale currently not known, <br />needs researching). <br /><br />The material that slumped appears to be similar to the dark dusty stuff that coats much <br />of the surface of the Solar System's third largest moon.<br /><br />It appears to be like like the huge landslide on the Saturn moon Iapetus.<br /><br />In many ways in fact Callisto & Iapetus are similar.
