Replying to:

rlb2: Wow! That is very interesting. I also wonder what made those curtains of suspended yellow dust. Has anyone else noticed this yet?
Posted by silylene

Hi silylene, my thoughts too. There is some interest by JPL and Cornel or they wouldn't have made so many images by the same L6 filter - meaning they are interested in the movement of something. The dust movement in the animation I made above is over 8 minutes long from first image to last - yet the dust didn’t move much in that time. It so far appears to extend over 7 sol's? If you look at the animation I made there is some movement in each frame - meaning the camera moved a bit.

Note this may be the result of trying to do two things at once, maybe they were moving something else in-between frames, this however wasn't the case in the color RGB filter images I processed. Another reason for the movement in the frames is that the rover slips a bit down an incline? The dust isn't moving much so wind passing through the area may not be the cause.

They may not have put 1 and 1 together yet meaning the Yellow - color difference when combining the RGB images. Whatever it is they seem to be interested because of the L6 images they keep taking, I used L6 filters for the animation that I did, they would do the same for their animation. Note L6-blue is 482nm. The color yellow that we see is 570 to 580 nm, the closes Rover filter to that is L5- Green 535nm.

http://sitelife.space.com/ver1.0/Forums/#

Ron Bennett
