Yea and you can tell the snow, frost from the dust in grayscale too right. I think I am going to need a few buckets with you.

I hope you are not doing anything really important are you? You need to stick with rocks.

Dfrank
I have a really itchy trigger finger today so instead of waiting to find out why you think L456 is better than HIRISE I'll tell you what I think.

Across the band covered by the long end of L4 and the short end of L5 half of the wavelengths don't register at all. If your target is at about 575 nm then your picture of it is going to be black.

HIRISE pictures of that object will not be black. Indeed, the band covered by L4 and L5 is covered simultaneously by two separate filters. If you look at the graph you can see that at 575 nm the Blue-Green and Red filters will both register the same intensity. In addition, the ratio of Blue-Green and Red responses allow one to calculate the exact wavelength of light on each pixel where both the Blue-Green and Red pixels are >0. Knowing the wavelength of light is knowing the real color.

For wavelengths below the Red channel the Blue-Green filter is superior to your L6 choice because it, too, covers the wavelengths that would have made the pictures black.

When the HIRISE dudes say "Enhanced" they aren't kidding. If you want to rant on until they have unobtanium cameras and sub-space data links go ahead and rant. In homage to pierround, though, I think the children who may read this stuff deserve to know the other side of the story.

(not replying to you, Bob - you were merely the last post)

Well.

Mr dfrank, you are no Atmospheric Physicist. There were very simple responses to numerous questions asked of you, and you failed all of them.

How very disappointing.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

***Username Distortion Removed***,

***Username Distortion Removed***, I am talking to you. You say I was ask questions and could not answer them. You have made a claim that I Am not who I am.

I know you would never do this without outlining in detail how you reached this conclusion. You would never just make a claim that could not be substantiated would you. I would not thank so. You must have been cut off, had some type of comm. Problem.

I will wait for the rest of your post.

Dfrank

Simply, you failed to adequately answer virtually any Atmospherics question put to you; further, your speculations on same were wrong. Not understanding how a fine dust (effectively an aerosol) and water vapor in the form of clouds can be distinguished via even monochromatic remote-sensing? Simply absurd. No one with even a basic understanding of Atmospheric Physics, Physical Geography, Remote Sensing, would make such an error.

I ceased to reply to you previously as my single request for further information to your "Atmospheric Scientist" claim was met by an Ad-Hominem. Frankly, that set a tone for conversing with you; clearly this was your choice, as I in no way made a single comment that required or deserved an Ad-Hominem as a response.

Oh, I might add here that you do not appear to suffer from any major difficulties either reading or typing. Therefore I must consider your misspelling of my username as deliberate. Just as with Ad-Hominem, this is forbidden by our rules.

So. You do not fail to answer multiple questions placed to you during over 800+ posts by multiple other members here, yet then demand I answer your questions.

What questions do I ask? What your actual experience is? Can you respond to the fact that we all sincerely disbelieve NOAA would have a 97 year old on it's payroll? The lack of specific scientific knowledge in fields you claim expertise in? Perhaps it's the constant reminding us of your "age."

Very well. Here's a few questions relating to Atmospheric Physics I'd very much like you to answer:

What is Number Density, and how does it relate to Atmospheric Physics? Hint: 1/2718...

What is CLAVR utilized for?

How about NDVI?

What, specifically, is Rayleigh Optical Depth, and how is it actually calculated?

Simple questions. I await your responses.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I will not answer questions that are based on an ignorance of satellite data interpretation. I am not a teacher. If you can not understand how grayscale could hinder this there is not a base of comprehension to work with. It would sound like gibberish and we would just keep going in circles.

I will not disclose personal information.

I have never been employed by NOAA. I worked for them as a subcontracted. My experience is 20 years Aviation weather US Navy. I retired and did subcontract work after that. I still do some contract work for the weather channel, during winter storm events.

I am not here to prove I am who I am. You made a claim that I was not. The burden of proof is on the plaintiff

You made the claim, prove it.

Dfrank
You made the claim at 8:29 pm. I know you had all the information at that time to prove your claim. I know you would not make a claim from just opinion and speculation, would
you?

You would not be probing for additional data would you?
I am not here to prove I am who I am. You made a claim that I was not. The burden of proof is on the plaintiff

You made the claim, prove it.

Neat evasion.

You are the one who has claimed specific expertise, you are the one who failed to state clearly what this was, and you are the one who failed to demonstrate expert knowledge of the fields you claim expertise in.

In your response here, you again refuse to answer perfectly reasonable questions put to you by grieving them instead, yet demanding answers in response.

You have no expertise in Atmospheric Physics in any way, shape, or form, and you demonstrate this by your refusal to answer four simple and quite basic questions that would remove all doubt. I am many years away from a simple Undergraduate education in this subject matter, and did not work in the field afterwards, yet can still answer someone if asked. Apparently you cannot.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I hear a lot of you should and I could. Sounds like speculation and opinion to me.
Prove your claim from data as of the time of the claim or retract.
I will check in the AM.

Dfrank
Well, thank you for convincing me you have no expertise here.

After being Ad-Hominemed by you, had my username distorted by you, and had a few posts that asked questions of you completely ignored, I have that right.

Try answering my four questions posed to you; they're really very very basic indeed. If you stopped me on the street and asked me them, I could answer them. Can you?

Come now. Four simple questions.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Some posts are fine and some appear to be written by someone for whom English is not a native language. Yeah. [wan smile]

He can Google all he wants. Unless he actually studied this field in an academic or at least semi-formal academic setting, he will not be able to answer them properly, no matter how hard he Googles the answers (which is why I asked them). And I provided another in this thread (who I will not name) with the answers I'm seeking; just in case I'm not around and as a "Control."

Let's see what Mr. dfrank really knows.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

A total lack of content, even. Why, I note your response lo these many posts ago as to how and why we would see a specific subjectively viewed color of the Martian atmosphere was actually already provided to you (Rayleigh Scattering); your response merely repeated the prompt, although the correct answer is far more complicated than that.

Not once have you provided really any expert and detailed knowledge of your avowed subject matter.

A Tree is known by it's fruit, goes the Revolutionary war parable; your fruit is barren.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

More opinion, when are we going to get to the part were goldilocks meets the bears? When you going to prove I am not who I am. Speculation is all I hear. You had all the data you needed at 8:29. You still don’t understand you should have had the data then when you made the claim. If you can not understand this simple fact how are we going to discuss more complex issues? You should have waited.

I can say this is a nice forum. The conversation on mars anomalies has been great. We have covered a lot.
More opinion

No, a request to provide fact. Inasmuch as you have balked at doing so - demonstrably - you are not an "Atmospheric Scientist."

We all have serious issue with your repeated and obviously willful refusal to answer a single difficult question directly related to your supposed "expertise."

Until you take a stab at answering my questions - one of a very tiny number I have asked of you in this thread, compared to your claims of expertise - you are merely demonstrating that you have no idea as to what you're talking about. You evade rather than respond.

Prove me wrong. Answer the damned questions. Is this so hard? You've demanded the same of others in these two threads at least ten times more than I have.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

You know dfrank, your posts remind me of an old joke:

There was this ad in the paper "Loggers wanted". An old man sees the foreman and says "I am not that young anymore, but I am the best logger in the world". "Are you now?", responds the foreman, and continues "so where did you work last?". The old man replies "in the Sahara". The foreman laughs and says "but there aren't any trees in the Sahara!". Answers back the old man "there you are!".

I can barely see the forest through the trrees. Which reminds me, is the Mars sky blue except when tinted with dust, and then it's kinda red ?

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !
