I have a Bit Torrent file available of the Selene video i recently put together.

Eventually it may appear in a reduced and trimmed down form on Youtube. However, the Bit Torrent option will give you a file tailor made for VCD. You can use it in an application such as Nero, to produce a disc to play on your DVD player ( if it runs VCD's )

Bit Torrent file ( you will need a bit torrent application, see anthmartian web site link below ) ...

Selene - Exploring The Moon - Part 1

http://www.mininova.org/tor/1011630

I have a bit more info on how to download it on my site, plus all the help you need to play it...

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/thisislandearth

If you hear the words "Bit Torrent Files" and panic, you do not have to, there is nothing illegal about Bit Torrent. The fact some people use it to share illegal content is another matter. Distributing non copyrighted files is not illegal. It is infact what Bit Torrent was developed for. therefore there is nothing illegal about this video.

The movie contains, SDC member Brellis's fantastic music, accompanying most of the early stuff released by JAXA. Including high res 2d animated still images, video from the HDTV camera, plus a terrain camera animation, and time lapse movies. Coverage of the launch of Selene, and the Earth Rise and Set press release.

Worth viewing on your TV. Running time is a little over 18 minutes.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Hi Anthmartian,

I am downloading the Selene Video.

It is very slow however, averaging only 4 KBS. That's not right is it?????

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Andrew, that is slow. I have seen speeds of 500kbs today at one point. But mostly it has been around 30kbs. I hope things pick up for you. I have no idea why it is so slow right now. I have seen many torrents drag their feet then spring in to action, so i hope that is the case here. Maybe let it run over night, and hopefully it will be done in the morning.

This is a first for me, i have never used bit torrent before to distribute. So, i am sorry for any teething troubles.

If anybody does download, please could you leave the file in your torrent app for a while at least when it has finished, it will help others get it better, and faster. Thanks.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Thanks mate, I hoped it was not me.

Just now it dropped to 1.2 kps, but has picked up to 8 kbs now.

It looks like another four & a half hours are remaining, so I think I will have to leave my set up
running all night, as I did not expect it to take so long.

Anyhow, it will be well worth it.

Thank you for doing it.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Thanks Andrew. You know me, i get a lot of pleasure from passing things like this on, and letting like minded people to myself get the most out of these things. I have Pm'd you too, btw.

To be honest it was hastily put together, because i felt people would like the chance to see some of the Selene stuff on a bigger screen right now. Or to have the video sequences on their PC or TV any time they like.

It was rushed out to keep it topical. i do like to take my time a bit more, maybe do some more complex animations or create a 3d animation for a video project. I would also like to have had Brellis arrange the music as well as provide it. But i really wanted a quick turn around on this video.

However, some of the views are amazing, You do not need to get too fancy with stunning source material like this.

I really like one scene, it worked out well. It is a time lapse of Earth setting, which unlike the proper video portions of the feature, the low res copies of the HDTV movies, which show that event, this movie was made using the higher res jpg's of the Earth set which were released.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Also Antmartian,

The offical lunar orbital mission does not officially start until Saturday 1st December 2007, so
with what has already been returned, the Earth Rise & set, T C very high reso, lunar
south polar images, etc, what the hell will she be like when warmed up, carrying out
the mission proper?????????

Amazing craft indeed, the Japanese are really a force to be reckoned with.

NASA has its work cut out with the Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter, that too
will be an incredible mission.

Good to see that the moon is back in Vogue

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. It is Nimbus, a bow shock, where forward compression creates an area of low
pressure behind, hence the 'cloud' forming around the nose of the launch vehicle.

Any rocket this happens too & is very obvious with the telephoto shots of the Delta 2,
with Phoenix & DAWN.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. yep, you do see a lot of pictures of the Delta 2 with that shock wave. The Selene launch did show it particularly well.

Don't know about you, but i would not mind a weeks holiday right now at that launch complex! Looks quite nice!

I have a Selene page up now on my site.

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/selene

It features images that have so far appeared on my site, plus a bunch of YouTube screens, 3 parts of "Part 1" of the Selene video. ( if you know what i mean? )

It also have the info needed and the links to download the Bit Torrent of the Video at full VCD resolution.

I would like to thank Brellis for sending me the fantastic music for this video.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Brellis : I have links at the site which should steer anybody to some video codecs if they have trouble playing or encoding the VCD in burning software.

I apologise for the Youtube video, it is split in to 3 parts. Only the end part has your credit on. As it was designed to run as one part. However, i have placed your name prominently on the write up to the right of the video screen on the You Tube page.

160 people have now downloaded the VCD version via bit torrent! if i had not placed it in the documentary section of the download site i expect "ordinary people" may have downloaded it too! lol

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Thanks a bunch Anthmartian,

Great stuff as always, like Brad's (Brellis's) music too.

The Earth Rise shows the Crater Plaskett very well with the central peaks in the oblique sun,
with that large, flattish crater
Rozhdestvenshy, almost at the Lunar North Pole.

Selene was travelling along the Lunar "International Date Line" or 180 deg longitude, passing
over the pole over the Lunar meridian.

The Earth set, taken with the narrower angle rear looking HDTV, showed the Earth setting behind
the Lunar Liebnitz mountains,
close to the South Pole, & just after 'Earth Set' the rugged terrain on the Lunar farside
around the far side south polar crater Sverdrup.

Once again, thanks Anthmartian & Brellis.

BTW, I noticed some stupid troll on YouTube, claims that Selene has imaged alien
spacecraft near the lunar north pole. Wondered how long it would be before the woo woos
found 'some dodgy evidence'.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Thanks Anthmartian and Brellis, that is really well put together. I downloaded the file as soon as you posted it but have only just got around to watching it. Great stuff!!

I will seed it for a while for sure.

I too cant wait to see the full capabilities of this mission. Does anybody know if it would be possible to film a earth set/rise looking from the night side of earth? It would be interesting to see city lights. Or would the sun blind the camera?

Thanks again guys.

itsfullofstars
Hi itsfullofstars,

I'm afraid that's true for most new Earths, but there is a Total Lunar Eclipse on: Wednesday 20th February 2008.

From the moon, it will be a total Solar Eclipse.

This has only ever been seen once before from the Moon, by Surveyor 3.

However SELENE is using a modern HDTV, so lets see. I hope JAXA will attempt an observation.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. I agree shuttle_guy,

I thinak that too. The bright ring of scattered sunlight in the Earth's atmosphere, would be far too
bright, to allow for SELENE to image city lights from that distance.

Dunno though, if JAXA will attempt the February 2008 eclipse???

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. A width of the 3D picture is 35km.
and size of mesh drawn in the 3D picture is 1km.

Therefore, a width of the 3D picture is 35 meshes.
It looks to me like it is taking in the whole 35km in one go with its imaging? I think the mesh is a way of underlining, or is some part of the 3d effect. To me it is saying it gathers an image 35km wide by 60km long in one shot.

Selene is still wowing me! "Note: that the Earth does not rise/set if you are on the Moon's surface. I asume it would need some kind of heavy duty filter to work, would be cool to see tho.

itsfullofstars

-------------
P.S

I just found this after posting if anybody is interested......... off topic a bit.

http://www.mauriceonthemoon.com/glossary.php#E

It seams you can see an earthrise but only at certain points on the surface, is this correct? I assume this due to a slight wobble?

"Earthrise: The rise of the Earth over the lunar horizon is called Earthrise. This only happens if you live in a narrow band on the Moon that separates the near side from the far side. Earthrise times are irregular, and the speed and length of the event varies greatly.
