Great stuff,

Looks like that all deployments have gone well. KAGUYA main satellite was injected in its scheduled orbit and shifted its operation mode to the regular control mode. Both the main satellite and its two baby satellites are in good health.

The critical phase is completed and are now moving to the initial functional verification phase. Regular observations will start in mid December.

Current orbit is 123 X 80 km.

http://www.jaxa.jp/press/2007/10/20071021_kaguya_e.html

I am very excited about this whole new bout of lunar exploration. The HD image of Earth was stunning. When i imagine that applied to the lunar surface my mouth is watering!

I took some of the Selene images released so far and re balanced the colour. Plus some other alterations.

I have begun a slide show here which features the pictures.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/18583513@N03/sets/72157602966828261/show/

More stuff will be posted here...

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/thisislandearth

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Well done to the nation of Japan.

To me it is very important that mission planners at least in some missions every so often spare a thought for the general public who are funding the bulk of such missions. By incorperating some means of delivering them something they can see, understand, and can be thrilled at.

The Japanese tax paying public, along with the rest of the world have been given something very special here. Stunning views and the prospect of so much more to come.

I would suspect there are very few in Japan who do not fully support this mission, and as a result, future exploration of space by JAXA. This HDTV camera is not just of scientific use, it is a huge PR tool.

Everybody loves imagery like this. Hubble delierved crowd pleasers like this by the bucket load. Look how popular it is, not just with space enthusiasts, but ordinary people too. There are lessons to be learned here.

Thanks for the links Andrew.

This is one to follow!

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! You are very welcome Anthmartian,

You are more than correct. Japan has pulled off a spectacular here & is a real
tribute to the nation & people of Japan.

Yoshisada Takizawa, Mission Manager, is being very open about this & ensures that
new data is posted online as soon as is possible.

There are no new updates today, but am checking the site very regularly, several times a day.

Kaguya / Selene, is going to produce some spectacular science & will give us all a completely new
view of our giant natural satelitte.

Also Kaguya will compliment the NASA / JPL Lunar Reconnaisance Orbiter very well.

This is a very good time now for lunar exploration.

Also Kaguya's data will be of enormous benefit, towards getting humans back
on the Moon.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. here are some stills i pulled from the HDTV flash player movie.

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/selene.montage.jpg/selene.montage-full.jpg

I am hoping JAXA release a full res HD movie file. That really would be something to see.

I have featured a few Selene images on my site this week, and they also feature in some slide shows/archives which you can navigate to from my site.

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/thisislandearth

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! A huge, huge thank you Anthmartian.

I have downloaded your SELENE montage. The final panel, was very close to the Moon's
North Pole, an area that really has not been seen too well since the Lunar Orbiter 4 & 5 Missions,
Galileo encounter & Clementine.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Hi Anthmartian.

We have astrowikizhang to thank for the heads up.

I just linked to the images directly, where as astrowikizhang linked to the
actual page, containing the information.

I too am taken a back by this.

This is just so incredible, marvellous,. Seeing the Earth like that above the Moon's south pole
(never ever seen before like that), with the 'upside down' Earth above what
I think are the Lunar Leibnitz Mountains.

The Selene / Kaguya site must be monitored regularly.

Looking forward now to the dedicated Lunar observations in high resolution.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Is there any chance of getting some images of the Apollo landing sites? It would be nice to see how they're holding up, and maybe silence some of the moon hoax people, though I doubt it.
