I'm also a fan of Rob Navias (of the incredibly long sentence). His voice has a certain dramatic tone that hearks back to the early days. I hope we'll hear from him after liftoff.

The secondary NASA-TV channel is showing the video of the crew weather briefing. There's not much on the Melbourne (FL, not Australia) weather radar - they could launch right now if it was time.

I'm waiting for it to switch to the TAL/AOA sites to see what's happening there.

Nearly 3a.m. local time. Starting to fade a little. Might be time to activate the coffee maker.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Arobie logging in.

Live picture of the shuttle on screen. Aint she a beaut!

This is the first shuttle launch I have watched live. Columbia was the first I had followed. That was about the time I had really become interested in current space news and old enough to understand enough to know what is going on.

I've got those butterflies flying around in my stomach now. Good luck to the entire shuttle team, and fly true Discovery.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed anyway. The crew have now all donned their suits. They should head out to the van in about fifteen minutes. TAL sites have been activated, including the new one in France, and the SLF's radar has also been activated in the unlikely event of an RTLS abort.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Stupid CNN has a poll on their website that asks "Do you think NASA should go ahead with the launch of Discovery?"

So far, 73% (63,431 votes) said yes, 27% (23,570 votes) said no.

Here's a link to radar on Intellicast that shows Merritt Island and the Cape. Right now, there's a nasty blob of precipitation on Merritt Island.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

The BBC just asked their guy if NASA thinks the "Aeroplane" will get into space without any hitches.

Slow day in the brain departments of some media centres.
