Apparently working a heater issue on the ET. A Red Crew has been dispatched to the pad to changeout a package prior to beginning the tanking operation.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

These 7 Astronauts, each with the smaller burden of expectation from each respective country, have the world watching them, They are about to ascend into the abyss of space on the greatest vehicle ever designed. The dedication these fellow humans show is outstanding, the sacrifice they are willing to take to provide each and every one of us with technology that is used to save lives and better our understanding and way of life. They stand for all of humankind, they are our ambassadors in space, prepping the infrastructure so that we may one day follow them in the pursuit of knowledge and colonisation of the stars. This is humankinds destiny.

Godspeed Discovery.

For all Humankind

It's taking an age to change out this firing package.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

the windows on the roof of the orbiter (which had the problem yesterday) .... are those a legacy from the ejection seats which Columbia had? I know they were never installed on Discovery but the "holes" might have been there.

When i heard of that tile problem yesterday, i rejoiced, thinking i'd betted right that the shuttle wouldn't launch this year. But the way things are going, i'm gonna lose out $10 to shuttle_guy!

are those a legacy from the ejection seats which Columbia had?

I don't think so, they are used for watching the ISS docking, and there is the remote manipulator station under them as well. I think that there is also a pair of windows into the cargo bay from there.

From STS-92:

SG would give us the full skinny if he were around. I wonder where he is .......... oh, that's right, he's helping launch the freakin' Shuttle today!!!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Did you bet $10 with a lot of other friends too? This could get expensive

I scheduled my vacation for the May launch so I can't go. I was disappointed then but I feel excited today; spacewalks! Go NASA go America!

I've been watching for about an hour and I need to make some coffee.

>...the windows on the roof of the orbiter (which had the problem yesterday) .... are those a legacy from the ejection seats which Columbia had?
No. The windows are over the aft part of the flight deck and were part of the original design, so that the crew has a few for docking.

I made a bet last year that all Allied forces would be out of Iraq by 1st jan 2006. Oh well, $100 down the drain.

yeah, when I webnt back and looked I realized those windows are *way* too far "back" to be ejection covers ... the ones of Columbia were obviously more forward over the CDR and PLT seats. It's early and I'm sleepy ....

GO FLIGHT!

Does anybody else find Jessica Rye's commentary on NASA TV to not be as enjoyable as the previous commentator's? Hmm... was it Buckingham that did it before? Anyway, I think I find her voice and way of speaking to be annoying.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 13, 2005
1155 GMT (7:55 a.m. EDT)

T-minus 4 hours and counting. The count has another hour before clocks enter a three-hour planned hold.

1140 GMT (7:40 a.m. EDT)

The latest weather forecast is still predicting a 60 percent chance of acceptable conditions today. Clouds and thunderstorms are the main threats. All three abort landing sites in France and Spain are looking good. But it will be a wait-and-watch situation for the dicy Florida summertime weather at the launch site.
Apparently she's only 4ft tall and a bit 'robotic' She's pretty good looking all the same.

Anyway, enough talk of Boeing's CEV blueprint

She does sound like she's got some nasal issues.

In reply to:

Anyway, I think I find her voice and way of speaking to be annoying.

I agree. She doesn't seem proficient in the subjects she is talking about, resulting in sentences which sometimes don't make grammatical sense.

I'm assuming she is the 'graveyard shift' host, and one of the first-stringers (hopefully George or Rob) will be along sooner rather than later.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Don't like the looks of some of that cloud rolling in from the right of the pad.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Just want to clarify something for myself about the launch time.
On this page http://www.space.com/returntoflight/ , in the "Discovery’s External Tank Fueling Continues" update, the author says launch is scheduled for "3:51 p.m. EDT (1951 GMT)" yet the clock at the top of the page indicates a GMT launch time of about 20:51 GMT.

Looks like UTC and GMT is messing with peoples heads, I think. Confusing myself now.
