Since the ISS is made up of modules, would it be possible, after it has preformed its task, to disassemble and re-attach the modules into a different configuration. Like "Super" legos, re-assemble the station, or perhaps even "part it out" for vehicles assembled in LEO?

I would hate to see all that metal and equipment burned up like skylab was. There must be some way to recycle the modules. They can already be used by USA and Russia docking technology, so they already have "cross-platform" capability. They already have at least one shielded room for solar storms.

A "module" based craft may just be the way to go. Any severely damaged module could be jettisoned, and any module at all could be used as a "lifeboat" in case of catastrophic equipment failure. Heck. we could take a page out of the Borgs book and make several modules capable of controlling the entire craft. This way if one is lost, the mission will not be lost.
