We had Resident Evil, Wing Commander, AvP and Quake is coming. What next?

How about Half-Life2. That would be very good Sci-fi movie.
I heard something about Halo move. Is it true?

Yup I think there is a halo move in the works, there is already a novel (or more).

Rama came after the book but was also a game, rumours of a film have floated for years but it would still be good.

How about something set on the X-com games, I loved those.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. Given the sorry history of game-to-movie evolution, there should be an international treaty prohibiting it, with the punishment for violation being death by firing squad.

If you think I'm being harsh, watch Wing Commander, Street Fighter and Tomb Raider back to back. Saddam had nothing on these....

Half-life

Doom (Although, it was supposedly in the works a few years ago.)

Duke Nukem (Was supposed to be in the works years ago also. Would make a fun pulp-movie.)

ANY of the old "gold box" edition D&D games. All had excellent stories.

Leisure Suit Larry

Dark Colony (An old RTS game that didn't get much attention because it.. didn't deserve any. But, the backstory was interesting. Colonist on a new planet meet big nasty aliens..)

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

that was my first reaction too najaB, game-to-movie crossovers suck. the reverse has turned out better. still, there is always hope a good producer will someday be inspired by a game world or story to create something decent.

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

*Craft movie would be great. But to do it properly a lot of money would be spent. But imagine all the space and ground action we could have.

How about a movie of the game, Close Combat Five "Invasion Normandy"

REALLY great plot this one. France is occupied by Germans, but not the slightly arrogant, overly tall, but basically decent Germans we know today.

These Germans are, if not each and every one enthusiastic supporters of a rabid madman, at least COMPLICT in the crimes, black and heartless, of the bunch of villians called "The National Socialist Party of Germany".

They have very good weapons, and most of their troops have a high "Esprit de Corp" and are very well trained. Their Tanks, and anti-tank guns especially are potent.

The "HEROS" of the potential movie, are basically the US army, with cameo appearances by the US flyboys*. Far less well trained, almost inept half the time, their strengths are overwealming numbers, EXTREMELY proficent supply, and , when the going gets tough, a basic toughness and "CAN DO" attitude.

The scenes are repleat with evocative locations, and an exotic cast of minor characters.

I tell you, there is enough material in this game, that, impossible as it might sound, 60 YEARS of film might be available. And, for the foreign audience, the games fanbase has actually made " British and combined forces " mods, so you could make SOME of the movies as if people other than the USA forces, were involved.

EXCELLENT set pieces, human interest, and a really titanic scale.

*They DO tend to overshoot their targets, and sometimes (maybe as many as 3 out of twenty) bomb their own side, so they are likely only useful as a black-comedy relief in the movie.

we are getting lots of movies with vast combat scenes, both ground and space. it does take lots of $$$ of course, but a Starcraft movie would just be part of that trend.

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

You know what would make it really interesting? If the movie focused on one platoon who were given a near-pointless task to perform in the middle of the mayhem.

Hey, didn't they do that movie already?

I agree, a StarCraft movie should be good, except they already did that. They called it "StarShip Troopers", however. Anyone I know who played the game and watched the movies all call it "StarCraft Troopers." Close enough for gov't work, anyways.

I seem to recall hearing that StarCraft is, or at least was, so popular in Korea that they put on live-action StarCraft plays.

But then again, a properly done StarCraft movie? Ahhh, the explosive action goodness of a full Double Arbiter Recall (what I refer to as the Protoss Nuke, the Nuke that keeps on Nuking) in the middle of a base. That would make for a very nasty firefight, with the attack finally beaten down by a real nuke. Faces melt, eyes explode, everybody dies! Then the quest for revenge begins. I can almost hear the screams now...
you are hired as director

I wish the combat in Starship Troopers had been as interesting as some of the battles possible on starcraft. it was still an enjoyable movie though

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

plenty of reasons:

- I dont need or want all my entertainment to be interactive

- some of the worlds, plots and characters in these games could make good stories

- visual impact: movie special FX are orders of magnitude better than many games, plus there is that really big screen and audio

- two hours and its over, no spending a chunk of your life shooting for the next level or the next mission. just a few more experience points, just let me destroy one more base and I'll go to sleep

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

Oh yeah, Half Life. Hair stands up every time I play it. Head crabs, oh man. They make my skin crawl. On a similar note, there are a lot of possibilities for MMRPG's. They have history.

DenniSys.com

Blizzard rocks at making CGI cutscenes so the great thing about a starcraft movie is that they'll have all their staff ready to go. Granted, it might delay some of their projects but w/the amount of money that this can gross (esp. in Korea, they're crazy about Starfract) it would be crazy to pass it up!
