Another update here from Spaceflightnow.com.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Re: shuttle landing and satellite shooting.

I hope they don't get their targets mixed up!!!

Edit: don't put Cheney in charge of the shooting!

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.

Why couldnt they wait until Thrursday to shoot it down, so Atlantis would then only have to go for KSC landing on the Wed?

By Thursday it may be too late. The satellite is rapidly losing altitude, and eventually will enter it's atmosphere induced death spiral.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Well they did say 12pm ET on Nasatv but clearly that is wrong. TV schedule says 1pm ET

They probably meant 12 PM CST, since it's from JSC in Houston.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. Ah good point. Trying to work out which time zone they mean, then converting that to UK time can get confusing

BTW, for those looking to see the ISS tonight, there has been a small reboost so the times and positions of the passes have been adjusted on the H-A page.

I'll check to see how close they and the NASA site are.

MW

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Everything going well it seems

Not sure if ive seen a more successful mission than this one. They continue to be ahead of all tasks (think they said 1 day ahead at one point). Only had a few minor problems but they have been dealt with. And they may have found a cause for the glove issue which is a bonus

This one definitely seems to be a bit less dramatic than the last one (I mean comon, that spacewalk out to the solar panels!?).

I'd take "routine" to the last mission any day.

The last mission was certainly eventful. Not what Nasa want but was great to watch

Wow! Thanks Wayne, I would have missed it, tonight is my best opportunity.
Just checked, NASA sightings page has updated.

bobblebob wrote:
"The last mission was certainly eventful. Not what Nasa want but was great to watch"

Agreed, the solar panel repair, ranks with the Hubble service mission.
Best space walks ever! Oh, and the 100 ft boom test "felt like worms on a fishing pole." So cool!

                            www.watchnasatv.com

                          ONE PERCENT FOR NASA!

Ok. So I was just reading Spaceflightnow, and they mentioned that the shuttle is going to do a reboost for the station (as MW has said prior). This is what I don't understand:

They said that the reboost is going to take 36 minutes. Is this 36 minutes of continuous firing, or are we talking about a 36 minute period in the mission time line for the reboost? I can't see the shuttle having the prop reserves for such a long burn!

Well it sort of has.

There is still a small discrepency between the NASA Manned Spaceflight pass info and Heaven's-Above.

The NASA data was updated aroynd 0300 UT, HA about 0900 UT, so the H-A data is the most current.

The difference is small, so if you go out at the appointed time, you should see either, and if you have an accurate watch and know your directions and elevations, should be able to determine which is the more correct.

I will be doing that

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I was going to look at the station as it passed over the other night, but of course I got excited so I jinxed it. We keep getting socked in. Arrrgh.

That might be correct (I'm not sure).

Since the reboost is being done by the ISS, I'm not sure what the thrust is, or the fuel consumption rate.

IIRC, another reboost is planned shortly after the shuttle, err Orbiter ( s_g ) departs to set up for ATV.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. The ISS reboost put it into a 2km higher orbit, so its unlikely to be a continual burn for just 2km

Can the ISS/shuttle crew see the doomed satellite on orbit?

No, it's really not that close.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. I understand that logic, but I was always under the impression that the shuttle's RCS was a "burst" style system. It is either ON or OFF. Am I totally incorrect? I know the OMS can be throttled, but I didn't think they would be used in this type of situation...

AFAIK, the orbiter is not (and in fact can not, in this configuration) do the reboost. It must be a reboost along the axis of travel.

The orbiter is on the front end, alighned so that any thrust would cause the ISS to rotate. Bad...

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters.
