Since we are going to blow by the 600 post limit on shuttle_guy's original thread this afternoon and it will be locked, I thought I'd get a second thread started for when that occurs.

Here's a link to Part 1

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. Monsters from the Id.

I really, really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function

I think you underestimate how quickly posts will pile up this afternoon.
It is a Friday, and the launch is "after work" for Eastern through Mountain time zones.

I will let him start that orbital obs thread, pehaps this one won't be needed.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Visible satellite loop: OK, here's how to get a visible satellite loop.

first click here

Then on the page that comes up:

1. Click on the amimation button.
2. Select number of frames to display. There are about 4 per hour, so selecting 12 will get you about 3 hours.

3. If you have a high speed connection, select 100% quality, otherwise leave at 55%, or lower if needed.

4. Finally, select a point on the image near KSC. It's the little bump on the east coast about 1/3 of the way from the top of Florida to the bottom.

This should bring up the loop.

Every 15 minutes or half hour or so, hit refresh, and at least with my IE7, it will update, and give you the latest number of frames you selected in step 2 above.

Remember time is in UT, 4 hours later that EDT. so 7:39 PM launch will take place at 2338 UT.

MW

Edit:
I couldn't copy both, here's part 2:

And this from the other thread.... Thanx, Mah_FL

Mah_FL

I have a webpage set up to display the vis sat pic, it auto refeshes.

http://mah.50webs.com/mflvisnc.html

And rainfall radar:

http://mah.50webs.com/shuttleradarwu.htm

But the Krell forgot one thing John. All this is from NASA launch blog

4:31 p.m. - Pilot Lee Archambault has entered Atlantis and is being strapped in on the flight deck next to commander Rick Sturckow. Lee Archambault worked for several years at Kennedy Space Center as a support astronaut. He went through the process of assisting the astronauts into the orbiter many times.

4:21 p.m. - Pilot Lee Archambault, Mission Specialists John "Danny" Olivas, Steven Swanson and Clayton Anderson will be making their first spaceflight on this mission.

4:19 p.m. - Mission Specialist James Reilly is getting seated on the middeck, or lower level of the orbiter.

4:17 p.m. - Shuttle Commander Rick Sturckow is first to be seated. He'll occupy the forward-left seat on the flight deck. There are specific seating arrangements for each launch. There is room for up to four seats on the middeck and another four on the flight deck.

4:10 p.m. - As each crew member is suited for launch, an orange glow stick is tucked into the shoulder pocket on the upper arm. The glow sticks are intended to give the astronauts a means of identifying one another in the unlikely event of an emergency landing in the dark.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Upstream radar and visible satellite images look great.

The weather is very unlikely to be an issue, from what I know.

I have not been able to access wind shear above the surface, but have had no indications that it is a concern.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Alright. Seems like its been forever since a shuttle launch. That hail storm damaging the tank was real dissapointing. Lets pray this baby gets up there safe today.

Thanks MeteorWayne, it's nice to hear that the weather is no issue.
Also at NASA TV there are no issues mentioned, everything seems go

Let's not ever say no issue
It's not nice to challenge Mother Nature.

The only problem I can see, (again, without upper wind measurements) is some cloudiness...but does not seem to be more than "if you wanna worry about something, worry about this" worst case scenario.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. "Bad weather at KSC for landing, bad weather at KSC for landing....."

We dont want that, extra $$ and extra time (the time being the bigger one).

Just fly yourself out to the Cape

Flyin to the Cape is not an option right now but I'm an hour from Edwards. Never seen but one SSME at a time. Running.

They said some moments ago on NASA TV that the weather was go, so probably the upper winds to.

We got a very nice view of the shuttle now, camera 070, I hope they will use this one for the first seconds of the launch.
Good. So far the countdown has gone flawless, too good to be true. Getting nervous

I noticed during the 20 minute briefing on Nasa TV, they were using GMT rather than their local time. Any reason for this?

As has become my tradition before launch, I just want to wish the USA and NASA folks, especially SG on console, 'good hunting' with the attempt today. He will, of course, already be at his station and won't see this 'till he gets home, but I'm sure he knows the good wishes of his friends here go with him as he helps to get Atlantis safely into orbit.

Hope it's green across the board for you today, Mate, and godspeed Atlantis!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!
