Ref: square illusion

Sorry can not less this go. This is an illusion of an illusion. A trick of the photographer of NASA. or anyone who wants to cast doubt.
IT says ,

“white squares are actually different shades of grayâ€

Different is different is different. Then add shadow and, presto, different is now different just not the same different. Get me a bucket. Do people get paid to cast doubt.

It is an illusion to make you believe you don’t really see what you see, lol. Sort of on the same lines as,

“We don’t know the colors of Mars because we have never been there.â€

“Photography is art.â€

“The sky can’t be blue because it can’t be blueâ€

And my personal favorite, “Don’t pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.â€

Credibility, not.

Dfrank

Let me give you a little friendly advice.

You better retract your accusation that Calli is using a sock puppet.
If you've read here for a while, you should know that to be untrue.
It's NOT her style.

You seem to be on a suicidal plunge to get banned.

If that's what you want, knock youself out

Wayne

But the Krell forgot one thing John. That's not true I'm asking her to check this crap out.

Besides that So you and all the other moderators can use Ad Homonym by the use of inferences.
And name calling on more than one occasion?
If I crack a joke like Clowns In Action I’m reprimanded.
Bias isn’t the word, Partiality, favoritism, Jaundice eyed, and many more describe it.

But you all can call people deluded, ignorant and weasels.

If freedom of speech is not accepted in here then I might as well be in China.

I really don't care as long as I can be witty too.

Why is it one sided then.
Who then moderates the moderators?
Who then do they answer to?
What makes them so fair?

I must of hit some major nerves.

I have to admit calling a pile of rocks on Mt. Members here, particularly telfrow, found them and jokingly started an informal "club" i.e. Space Dot Com Data Dawgs. ZenOnMars made a sarcastic comment about "data weasels" as opposed to Data Dawgs. So in this thread calling A_L_P a data weasel was an inside joke and a term of endearment, not an insult.

pierround -
It's pretty obvious I have been reading in here for a year till I decided to post and I know your writing styles.
I can tell that mental avenger is the shadow.
Calliarcale are you putting on your robe and wizard hat?

Why are you hiding?

??

I assume you are referring to me as Calli. Dude... I'm a guy. I am not Calliarcale. However, and this is beside the point, thank you for such a nice comparison. It certainly improves my reputation, but it may not do much for Calli's.

You know, I got into an involved conversation on another board regarding a matter very similar to this. They even mentioned your name. They even accused me of being a sock of one of several moderators/members on this board. One also accused me of being some long-lost best-email-pen-pal-friend... They even mentioned you by name. Yes, they mentioned your handle by name along with all the other accusations you're touting here.

It doesn't take much deduction to suspect that one of these people may have goaded you into making your baseless accusations. Perhaps they sent you a PM? Perhaps you read the thread I posted in and interacted with members over there? You certainly seemed to have gotten upset very quickly over some trigger that I fail to see in recent posts from others.... Then again, it's only my assumption and I have very little evidence with which to reasonably support such a thing.

I don't know what prompted such a display from you, but nobody here is trying to persecute you. There are no "sock puppets" here. There is no hidden agenda to get you banned. Nobody is "out to get you." If someone in power wanted to ban you.. Guess what? You'd have been banned long before now. People are interacting with you because they wish to, not because they have some diabolical plan laid out for you. I am not Calliarcale nor am I the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus or Jame
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

You brought up an ecellent point, as usual a_l_p.

pierriund, people discuss thing with you because they wish to.

I like to challenge silly assertions, to hopefully get you to examine why you see alien structures in normal rocks, why you think the rest of the world is out to stop you.

No one is stopping you from espusing your beliefs.

But if you post on an open, science based forum, expect those ideas to be subjected to proper scrutiny.

If you can't take criticism of your beliefs, then maybe you shouldn't post in public arenas where such beliefs will be examined.

My 2 cents.

PS, all my sock puppets died from the smell

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Hello all,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Dfrank an ageing space junkie, how old? I can remember when radio and newspaper was it.

I believe most people will hang around here because lets face it, anomalies are fun. Anyone can look at what makes sense, no thinking required. The human mind is a wonderful thing, always trying to make sense of what it sees.

Understanding is in its infancy. Where does geological process end and biological process begin? Is there a line or does it depend. What is hot and what is cold. Is it relative to the elements involved, I think so.

Look at that image, what is it, we ask. Some see a turtle shell, some see a rock. As long as we understand we can never know without being there we can have fun speculating.

You just need to ask yourself a few questions. Why does NASA classify images? Why are all the MRO images shown in grayscale and the hi-def images so large that 99% of the public cant down-load them. Is color important? Does it mean anything to a human?

Anomalies are fun. If you think different don’t fret. Galileo was confined to his home and was made out to be a confused dreamer. The battle of ideas has been going on for as long as we can remember. The big-bang may end up being the big-bounce. I say let the ideas fly, within reason. The question is whose

Dfrank
Welcome dfrank

You just need to ask yourself a few questions.

Questions are meant to be answered. Are you prepared to answers them?

Why does NASA classify images?

Not to my knowledge. Please give some examples.

Why are all the MRO images shown in grayscale

Not all of them. For most purposes panchromatic is quite adequate.

and the hi-def images so large that 99% of the public cant down-load them.

The full resolution images are not collected for the public's benefit, but the scientific community. However if members of the public want to ungrade to systems that can hangle such images it is not difficult.

Is color important? Does it mean anything to a human?

Care to be more specific? Is colour important for what? What meaning are you looking for?

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Thank you Jon,

Yes all questions need to be answered, but not all can be. Humans tend to read and retain information of their choosing. What is real or imagined? The truth can be lost in our own individual reality.

Why does NASA classify images?

Not to my knowledge. Please give some examples.

This is something I read a while back, in what place I can not remember. It was in context to the face image I believe. Someone had to sneak the photo out. It had been tucked away in a folder. If this was true it means if they would tuck one photo away they might tuck another. The classifications would be, ones we will release and ones we want. Maybe someone has a better example or maybe I dreamed that up.

Why are all the MRO images shown in grayscale

Not all of them. For most purposes panchromatic is quite adequate.

Adequate is an opinion I guess. False color and grayscale are not adequate to me.

Is color important? Does it mean anything to a human?

Care to be more specific? Is color important for what? What meaning are you looking for?

Why yes I can. The visible light spectrum, my favorite. Humans live in this realm. Visible is what is visible to you. We see as we do for survival. I care nothing about what a fly would see. L2,L7 are good for thermal absorption and inertia. Give me some L4,l5,L6.

Color tells us the difference in things, no matter the environment. A human could not comprehend the colors of boiling liquid carbon on the surface of the sun, but it has them. If colors where not important than why do we have color TV’s or color film. Black and white is adequate to most, or is it.

We can send a Rover to the surface of Mars and it is not important what color is in the image? We can send this great hi-def satellite in the orbit of Mars and it is not important what color is in the image. NASA sets them self up with their on contradictions. When Viking lan
