I am new to this discussion board...so this subject may already have been discussed. I just saw the remastered version of "The Galileo Seven" tonight and was very impressed with the enhanced special effects. I am such a fan of the original series and normally would not want anything done to "spoil" it, but I have to admit that the remastered version was beautiful.

In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back.
Charlie Brown

I went to startrek.com and clicked on the link about the remastered episodes and was able to view side-by-side comparison photos of the original shots and the enhanced versions......fascinating, as Spock would say! There is a youtube link to an interview with the original writer of the "Doomsday" episode. ("windsock covered in cement" made me laugh)

In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back.
Charlie Brown

I've been recording them on the DVD recorder & they turn out great. Gives me the opportunity to cut out the commercials & put >1 episode on a disc.

I started watching "Star Trek" during my middle school days in the late 1970's. I only got to see it on Friday nights at 10pm because my mother wouldn't let me stay up late on school nights. While all my other friends were swooning over the BeeGees and Shaun Cassidy, I was writing synopses of all the episodes in a spiral notebook and collecting all the novels about the series that I could find at used book stores. My parents, though never fully understanding my obsession, were kind enough to take me to a Star Trek convention around 1978 in Abuquerque, NM (where we lived at the time). I was in heaven! I got posters to cover my walls and stood in line to have George Takei sign one. He was so kind...taking the time to talk to me a little. My parents had to listen to me tell the story over and over on the way home..."I think his hand touched mine when he handed it back, Mom!" Still have the spiral notebook.

In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back.
Charlie Brown

First, welcome to the forums Stars.
I have not seen any of the remastered Trek, but Im going to go against the crowd here. Part of the appeal of TOS to me is the goofy special effects, the utter cheesyness of it. Then again, when TNG came out I said I would never watch it out of some bizzare faith to the original show, then became a bigger fan of that series than the original!
As you may have noticed by my screen name (Data and his evil twin, Lore)

"Space Seed" was very cool. And yea, I have to put "The Trouble With Tribbles" into my top 5. My all time favorite is "Spocks Brain" Pure just goofy at all levels, and hey, who wouldn't want a remote controled Spock?

I didn't mind the remastered Star Trek episode I saw, Enterprise going to crash into the planet, can't remember the name.

I suppose it was nice to see a digitally well-rendered planet on the big viewscreen of the bridge, but none of that stuff makes me want to watch the episodes over again. I'd get more excited about something new.

Maybe it will get kids, born decades after the cancellation of the original series, to stay tuned when they see the reruns (I mean, um, "remastered episodes" ). Whatever.

Now if the computer animation could just fix Shatner's acting, or let the guy in the red shirt survive just once.

I liked "the Naked Now" TNG. Stupid as all get out, horrible acting just all over the place, Welsey (and Data) save the ship, but just so bad you had to love it. A nice tribute to the cheese of the original series.

IMO "Charlie X" and "The Squire of Gothos" are the first encounters with residents of the Q Continuum.

Some good choices there CE (though I'd disagree about Charlie X).

Here's some others to ponder ....

BALANCE OF TERROR - The Romulans reappear with a deadly planet busting weapon to test the Federation's reserve. Starts with a wedding interrupted and ends with the death of the groom ... a statement about war dp you s'pose. Also a "real" feeling episode IMO. One on my fav's.

SPACE SEED - Introduces Khan .... 'nuff said.

THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER - The only time travel one I liked. Love Spock's response on what he's trying to construct.

A PIECE OF THE ACTION - While everyone likes "Tribbles" (me too), I'd rate this one as funny for all it's good one liners.

A PRIVATE LITTLE WAR - A well done take on why keeping up with the Jones in an arms race is a necessary, if undesirable, thing.

REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH - The idea of the almost-immortal Mr Flint as so many famous people was well done. Kirk was over the top but I ignored him and pined for Rayna .

ARENA - OK, maybe just a bit chessy but it has a Gorn, what can I say.

A TASTE OF ARMAGEDDON - I liked the idea that war should be dirty and not so antiseptic.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

I liked the idea that war should be dirty and not so antiseptic.

And isn't that a clue as to how the franchise evolved? It has become, in many ways, more...antiseptic...with time.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

ZeroGeezus - Captain Kirk must have had a stash of an interspecies super pheromone, cause all the chicks of most alien races were almost instantly drawn to him. Sure he had some mojo, but c'mon! He hardly had to do any wooing and it was everytime.

Bah. Captain Kirk oozed testosterone flavored mojo man. Other people used to come to him just to get a couple of drops. In fact, one of his sweat soaked shirts, that he frequently tore off, was singly responsible for the population boom on Crassus 9.

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6502/hum240bc7.jpg

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Yes, here is Trek brought back to life so I can revel in my lack thereof. But I almost puked when I discovered they had a pychologist as a member of the bridge crew. Yes, that concept would not have flown in TOS:

"KODOS! All Phaser banks - FIRE!!!"

"Captain, I detect naked hostility and unchecked ego. Are you certain your decision is the proper one?"

"Spock."

"What? Marina Sirtis is a lovely lady and a good actor I'm sure, but I never really liked her role on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Captain Kirk would definitely have been all over her, though.

True.

Kirk would bang her, then have her transferred to some remote science ship, where she could spectacularly reappear in STNG, years later, as a near-immortal sex-fiend, to be immolated in an accidental sub-Tachyonic accident that causes a supernova.

And good riddance.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

ZeroGeezus - Had she been around during Kirk's era she may have concluded that JTK's ultra-womanizing ways was clearly a subconscious effort on his part to deny his homosexual urges.

Had she been around during Kirk's era and been on his ship, she may only have been able to make that conclusion after she picked her clothes up off the floor and walked back to her cabin.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Err . . .

In the conclusion of The Squire of Gothos it was revealed Trelaine was a 'child' of whatever species he might have been.

Upon reflection, he had been playing the role of a spoiled brat 4 year old.

I'm not real confortable with describing a character that clearly was drawn as an annoying, spoilt child as a homosexual instead.

Having said that, it is pretty easy to imagine an adult Trelaine as the Q equivalent of Richard Simmons.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!
