Safe trip home guys. It's 1.40a here, better not stay up for another 90 mins, gotta work tomorrow. Still, it think it would be best to land first chance if the weather is feasible.

Look forward to the replays in the morning. Great mission!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Haha it's funny you say that sg, my friend actually scored a co-op with the flight crew systems this summer. I had dinner with her last night and she was telling me about what she does and she is so excited about it.

Hopefully next summer I will be able to get a co-op somewhere out there. I couldn't this summer because I have classes to finish

"I hope you get into the co-op program. is that with USA or NASA"

She's with USA right now. But I'm going to apply for all co-ops I can find. I'm going to apply for the Space Academy, they have a session in August.

I'll definitely let you know. Lunch sounds like a good idea. I'm getting excited because I'm closer and closer to reaching my dream of working with the space program.

sg, Are they still planning to land at EDW if KSC is red tomorrow? Or will it depend on what the forcasts for both EDW and KSC on saturday look like.

And if they land out here are you going to have to make a trip to the hot desert?

Showers within 30 miles, and ceilings sometimes OK and sometimes not.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Seeing as White Sands is such a bad place to land due to dust, couldnt Nasa ditch it as a landing site and find somewhere else (assuming there is somewhere else)?

If I'm reading the PAD right, it's 14:25:23 EDT

Edit: By the way, s_g, what does the acronym PAD stand for?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. There are few places with long enough runways.

White Sands has the advantage of having nearly unlimited runway length, so if you needed extra rollout because of a malfunction you'd have a place to go.
For that reason alone, it's worth keeping.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. "Space station commander Fyodor Yurchikhin today tried and failed to get two space station computers to boot up after jumper cables bypassing suspect power supply switches were removed.

The jumpers were installed last week to recover from a crippling failure that knocked all six of the station's main computers out of action. The electronic bypass surgery worked, and all six computers later were rebooted.

Early today, with four computers on line and working normally, Yurchikhin and flight engineer Oleg Kotov fired up the two computers held in reserve to make sure they were healthy, then shut them down and removed the bypass cables. They then attempted to restart the machines but they failed to reboot.

The test would seem to indicate that whatever problem affected the operation of secondary power supply switches last week was not a transient event. Engineers still don't know what caused the original problem and troubleshooting continues."

Good news. Confirms the cause

Well really it confirms the damage to the circuitry, not the original cause.

I know it's semantics.

That means they've diagnosed what's bad in the computers, but not what caused it to fail. Also seems to confirm it's a hard failure of that protective circuit.

Edit for good news: That is indeed progress in the diagnosis/repair path.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. this is just a hypothetical question.

weather looks good, they start the burn, so they are coming home, then the weather changes in the hour or so it takes to get down. What happens?
I know they only have one chance at landing somewhere.
I know they can predict the weather a little in advance, but it can change in only a few minutes.
That's why if it is marginal, they are inclined to wave it off.

Once you do the burn, you are coming in no matter what.

I don't know of any alternate site you could go to from a KSC landing, once you've done the burn.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. EDW should be good tomorrow, the forcasted winds have come down from what they were predicting earlier in the week.

They are planning to do an 11 fps adjustment to make a 1 orbit earlier attempt at Edwards which would overlap the 2nd orbit attempt at KSC tomorrow. The 1 orbit earlier at Edwards would get them in before the winds pick up. They plan to get on the ground tomorrow.

Edit: They originally said what s_g did, that it was for an earlier attmpt at KSC, then corrected it to an earlier attempt at EDW, overlapping with the second at KSC

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
