"<br /><br />Well it's a main road (I believe its Lancaster Blvd) on the AFB but the AFB is not open to the general public.<br /><br /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

Just wondering, I assume there is an available hanger at Edwards for an orbiter should weather or dust storms threaten post landing, correct?

I take it the crew have been transferred now.... no shuttle walkaround???<br /><br />Well it's not like Soyuz, where the crew climb out of the capsule with a big grin and sit in rocking chairs and blankets, drinking hot chocolate! <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" />

Do you know what the coef of drag is or a rought estimate for the orbiter in the configuration it is in during final approach? <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

That's pretty close.<br />If you were flying into your local airport on a commercial flight at that angle,<br />you'd be invoking any diety possible <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" /><br />And planning a wash trip when you got home <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#000080"><em><font color="#000000">But the Krell forgot one thing John. "It , alsmost never rains there..........It is no problem if the Orbiter gets wet."<br /><br />STS-104 was postponed over two weeks after STS-98 was rained on at EAFB for four solid days; its tiles had to be dried once it got back in the OPF with heat lamps 24/7. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p>-Ben</p> </div>

They are zoomed in on the left OMS pod and it does seem to show something lifted, or at least a shadow of something. Not sure if it is the same area as the repair but looks close.

"They managed to get the sound of that hovering Huey in the background during the closeout, ...forever!"<br /><br />I can still hear the helicopter every once in a while.... i think its getting aerial views.<br /><br />And thanks for finding the coef of drag.<br /><br />How long does it usually take until they start taxiing it off the runway? <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

To everybody who made the mission happen. Great work everyone. Thanks for keeping the posts up to date. My internet connection has been hit and miss I am in the middle of changing providers. That's Public Affairs Officer, or NASA-speak for commentator (although they do a lot more than just commentate on NASA TV).<br /><br />Brilliant landing, and very interesting to see some different scenery this time around. When do they begin to fly the shuttle back to KSC? And how much would something like that cost?
