""Seems to be a lot of traffic on the road in the background, would that be a public road? Seems pretty close... "

No that is not a public road ! "

Well it's a main road (I believe its Lancaster Blvd) on the AFB but the AFB is not open to the general public.

Just wondering, I assume there is an available hanger at Edwards for an orbiter should weather or dust storms threaten post landing, correct?

I take it the crew have been transferred now.... no shuttle walkaround???

Well it's not like Soyuz, where the crew climb out of the capsule with a big grin and sit in rocking chairs and blankets, drinking hot chocolate!

Do you know what the coef of drag is or a rought estimate for the orbiter in the configuration it is in during final approach?

That's pretty close.
If you were flying into your local airport on a commercial flight at that angle,
you'd be invoking any diety possible
And planning a wash trip when you got home

But the Krell forgot one thing John. "It , alsmost never rains there..........It is no problem if the Orbiter gets wet."

STS-104 was postponed over two weeks after STS-98 was rained on at EAFB for four solid days; its tiles had to be dried once it got back in the OPF with heat lamps 24/7.

-Ben

"We need an audio replay so we can hear the two sonic booms!"

I thought the sonic booms were a bit weak, but out here we are used to fighters going supersonic much lower.

They are zoomed in on the left OMS pod and it does seem to show something lifted, or at least a shadow of something. Not sure if it is the same area as the repair but looks close.

"They managed to get the sound of that hovering Huey in the background during the closeout, ...forever!"

I can still hear the helicopter every once in a while.... i think its getting aerial views.

And thanks for finding the coef of drag.

How long does it usually take until they start taxiing it off the runway?

In reply to:

My decoder ring doesn't include PAQ

I think you mean PAO? That's Public Affairs Officer, or NASA-speak for commentator (although they do a lot more than just commentate on NASA TV).

Brilliant landing, and very interesting to see some different scenery this time around. Got a bit concerned when it looked like Fatboy Slim or Moby had moved into the commentary position to start mixing the dance floor version of the final few minutes, but Kylie came through in the end!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Your contributions have been missed around M&L, and I wonder if this small foray signals your return to the fold?

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Glad to see the bird is back home safe and sound after an awesome mission. The ISS is looking great, can't wait to see it with another pair of wings.

When do they begin to fly the shuttle back to KSC? And how much would something like that cost?
