Anybody know why there is no sound on NASA TV? I would like to hear this repair as well as see it.

All the best to the amazing 'tiger teams' at NASA, on this important and historic day. Kind of proves my contention that the ISS is the last, great adventure to be had in Earth Orbit. I hope the EVA goes very well and I'll be praying, too.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

That's cool as hell, watchin him get his feet strapped in. He's gonna have a great ride!

SAFER - Don't leave home without it!

Edit: I hope we dont lose video too much during this walk, it's too good to miss a second! I hope the station cameras and the folks onboard are getting good photos.

BBC News reporting on this EVA. Funny then never reported on EVA 1, 2 or 3. Really annoys me

More great views of the damage. Did i hear right that it appears there are 3 tears instead of the 2 they thought they had?

What are the consequences If the WIF extender bumps the flexing wing? Arcing or just the bump?

Edit: secondly, can they retract the wing a little if the arm system cant quite reach the worksite?

Does anyone know the status and follow-up inspections indicated by the possible micrometeroid strike on Discovery? (reported on NASASpaceflight.com)

In reply to:

MMOD strike:

Listed as 'triple the maximum ever observed,' the indication came via the orbiter's Wing Leading Edge (WLE) sensors. However, previous MMOD strikes that have registered in the WLE system have - for the most part - not even been strikes, such are the sensitivity of the sensors.

'Reported to us (NASA SE&I) at 7am: Imagery WLE reported a significant hit on the port panel 1. This hit was triple the max ever observed,' noted official NASA notes during Flight Day 8.

The 'impact' registered 2.74 GMRS on the sensors, which is understood to be below the point of concern for engineers. However, it will be checked out during the post-undocking Late Inspection, via the OBBS (Orbiter Boom Sensor System).

'2 new indications (Panel 1L, 2.74 GRMS; Panel 6L/7L, 0.95 GRMS), 7 total on-orbit indications (6 remain to be cleared by Late Inspection),' noted Flight Day 8 MMT (Mission Management Team) information.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

I'm sure they'll check on those after ISS undock, during the final, or late inspection before reentry.

On the possible micrometeroid strike on the wing leading edge...

I'm sure they'll check on those after ISS undock, during the final, or late inspection before reentry.

quite correct, this just out:

In reply to:

Late Inspection will still be carried out, via cameras on the end of the Discovery's robotic arm, with the one main area of interest on Panel 1L, which - according to the WLE (Wing Leading Edge) sensors - received a registered hit three times higher than any previous 'impact' seen on the new sensors that debuted on STS-114.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.
