Hope to see them in Tallahassee tomorrow eve.

One thing bugging me though: On the highlight replays, when CDR Melroy gets into her seat she steps right on an instrument pannel with what looks like several switches....is everything powered down in the cabin when they board?
1st post whoohoo

Question for shuttle guy.

Sorry, I do not know how to ask this any other way, and this question has plagued me for a very long time:

How come on some shuttle missions the butt end of the ET is charred black?

Respectfully,
Rocket Scientist 327

SSPTS is Station-to-Shuttle Power Transfer System. It allowed the shuttle to draw power from the ISS meaning it can stay docked longer. It was first used on the last mission

How many hours of footage do mission control receive from the OBSS inspections?

What I have always wondered is, if it is so difficult to get into those orange suits and the parachutes on the ground with help, how do they do it by themselves in space before reentry?

Vote Libertarian

They use a big sling shot and shoot the astronauts in the suits......LOL!

Joking aside....everything in ZeroG doesn't weigh so its easier to handle the suits. I'm sure on the ground they are heavy. Plus you have extra people on the ground (as compared to orbit), why not use them. Also I'm guessing that the team that suits up the astronauts make sure they have everything they need along with leak checks.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

We have a great one tonight as well in the northeast.

Which judging by the weather we have no prayer of seeing

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
In reply to:

Each crewman has 6 others to help if required.

yeah, obviously. But, they seem to be tugging awefully hard to get those harnesses on in 1g. Has to be a lot harder in 0g. And besides, the last person to sit down has to attach his own chute.

Its obviously doable, but it cannot be the easiest thing to do in space.

Vote Libertarian

They don't always show such events on the schedule.

IIRC it's scheduled for ~ 8:35 AM EDT, so that's 1:30 for you?

I'd bet it will be covered.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Discovery has finished the backflip and is on final approach for docking. About 15 minutes to go, live on NASA TV now.

At the post launch news conference, they said no.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. The last view from the station showed the orbiter about 30 feet away. I enjoy watching X marks the spot to see how smoothly they fly in. Another favorite is the computer animation which shows the expanding plume radius from the thrusters, they didn't show that today.

I liked the shot from outside the space station showing the retraction from soft dock to hard dock.
I've never seen that before.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. That's a change to a procedure from the prewritten one.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. Question for SG-

I've watched the roll out of Discovery from the VAB and whatnot and wondered often- "Does each Orbiter have a decidcated crew to look after her?" I know there are subtle differences in each oribter, and wonder if there is one crew for example that works on Discovery and not an other Oribter?

Can this be confirmed?

Also, I bet that each crew member looks at each vehicle as almost a parent would at a child...
