I think "Father's Day" is my favorite episode of the season, although there are some other wonderful moments to come.

"The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" is in many ways a flash back to the Hinchcliffe days (early Tom Baker) when they had so many lovely creepy stories. The phrase "Are you my mummy?" shouldn't be scary, but in this story it sure is. I also like Captain Jack, who will be introduced in that story; he's a good foil for the Doctor. Plus, it does help having a companion who actually understands what the Doctor's talking about on a technical level.

"Boom Town" is a somewhat forgettable story, but it's not the plot that you want to watch in this one. As in "Father's Day", the plot isn't important. It's just what has to happen in order for the story to occur. What's important is how the characters interact. We see Rose's boyfriend again; I can't help thinking he deserves somebody who'll actually stick around for him. The Doctor has some interesting moral quandries in this one, talking philosophy with someone who had twice attempted to casually slaughter large numbers of people in pursuit of personal gain. It sets things up for the two-parter finale.

"Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways" is fast-paced, dramatic, and has lots of action. Lots of death, too. If you enjoyed "The Long Game", you'll enjoy this one too. It's set largely on Satellite Four, a century after "The Long Game", when the station is now called the Gamestation. The Doctor's repairs to the timeline did not succeed and humanity is in a disastrous decline, glued to their television sets watching reality shows. It has a lot of fun at the expense of today's reality shows, and one of the funniest moments comes in the teaser at the beginning of "Bad Wolf".
