Assuming they find a fix for the potential SARJ problem, any chance they would change EVA 4 (RAD demo) and fix it? Or even use EVA 4 to do further inspections of the SARJ?

THat's not the impression I got.

They need to bring the material back to earth and figure out what it is before taking any rash actions.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Yeah not long after i posted that they did seem to answer it.

Will the suspect SARJ be rotating the new P6 array once thats been fitted and deployed? Or is the other SARJ controlling that array?

They are completely separate joints.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. "can anyone confirm if that is the current configuration? "

Correct. PMA 3 was moved from the port to the nadir of Node 1. Node 2 is berthed there now. After 10A undocks, PMA 2 will be detached from the front of the lab and attached to the end of Node 2. The entire Node-2+PMA2 will be reloacted to the front of the lab. The Columbus will be attached to the starboard of Node 2 and the JEM to the port side.

(BTW, you will notice I use the module names and not the silly names like Harmony, Destiny - only the media uses those, no one at NASA really does)

"Or even use EVA 4 to do further inspections of the SARJ?"

All being discussed. Might move EVA 5 to 4's slot to have more time to figure what to do during 4, if anything can be.

Once Node 2 is up and running in the proper location, how long until the crew grows to 6 people?

You ask anyone working at JSC and we have to struggle to recall the monikers since all the documentation we have been using before the competitions uses the names that we continue to use. All procedure, documents outside of public view uses the standard names. And I meant no disrespect or being critical, I was just trying to explain why I was using the terms I was incase someone was wondering why I wasn't using "harmony" speak.

"Not until after STS128 "

Tenatively...schedule issues with some of the life support equipment could change that.

That's how I understand it. And through yet another power converter because the Russian modules use a very different buss voltage.

The folks I know that really work on them everyday don't call them DISCOVERY, ATLANTIS, ENDEAVOUR, they call them OV 103, 104, 105. I asked my friend, a SSME computer engineer about the next launch and if it was going to be ENDEAVOUR or ATLANTIS, and he said he couldn't remember the name but it was OV104. He's not a dumb guy by any means, it's just that he doesn't think of Orbiters by their "name".

Dont think its been mentioned, but an inspection of the port SARJ has been added to the EVA.

Although i dont think it will show any similar signs of damage, i really hope im right otherwise it may be a design issue thats the problem

Actually, I think the inspection of the port SARJ is to get a visual baseline for what a good joint looks like after long term operation.

Vote Libertarian

Yeah sorry thats what i meant, just didnt make it clear. But im also hoping the port SARJ is in a good condition, although from all accounts it is

It looks like the problem with the SARJ is going to turn out to be worse than something rubbing on insulation.

In reply to:

In what amounted to a rudimentary science experiment today, station commander Peggy Whitson put some collected shavings on a plain white piece of paper and then placed a magnet nearby. The shavings were drawn to the magnet, a sure sign that the contamination is ferris metal. That indicates gear teeth or other internal steel components are rubbing when the joint rotates.

http://www.floridatoday.com/floridatoday/blogs/spaceteam/

They did say yesterday even if they had to park the array they believe they still have enough power to allow STS122 to fly.

If they do remain docked for an extra day, how would this effect the planned EVa's to connect Harmony to its permanent location by the station crew? Would this then likely delay STS122?
