Anybody know off the top of their head what time the spacewalk starts tomorrow?

This launch time has messed me up; spacewalks too early, and no visible passes of the ISS/Orbiter until the last 3 days....

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Yeah around that time, although no EVA has begun on time this mission, so dont see why this one would be any different

"As expected, NASA's Mission Management Team today agreed with a recommendation from space station officials to extend the shuttle Discovery's flight one day to permit a more thorough inspection of a contaminated solar array rotary joint during a spacewalk Thursday."

So am i right in thinking EVA 3 will be to inspect the port SARJ, and EVA 4 to further inspect the damaged SARJ?

Ive been at work anyway so dont mind

Wasnt having a go at Nasa for not keeping to the schedule, just pointing out that if MeteorWayne wanted to know the time so he could watch it, then it would most likely change by the morning anyway. Im all for the crew getting things done as early as possible

Cheers for the other answers too, really appreciate your insight

"A good installation of P6 and a good array extension will probably meant that STS-122 can still launch in December. "

Not neccessarily - the P6 supports different power channels, plus we need to have 3 wings out to support all the power requirements for the new modules. But preliminary analysis looks encouraging.

"That's how I understand it. And through yet another power converter because the Russian modules use a very different buss voltage. "

There are still the SM panels, but yes, most power comes from ARCUs - American to Russian Converter Units.

Assuming no issues with the other SARG, can it operate with yhe contaminated one stationary without generating moment issues? Partial power. Enough to launch the next segment pending disposition of repair strategy?

Today's spacewalk completed, P6 array needed no help

But the Krell forgot one thing John. The first array went out OK but they hit a snag at bay 25 while deploying the other one (Right Array on 4B?). It looks baggy, they are currently calling it "damage".

Edit: Damage is at bay 11, 12, 13. Deploy was stopped at bay 25. Astronauts said they didn't have a real good view until then, thought it was bad lighting.

No good, the other solar array is torn apart. Is that area accessable by the robotic arm? Or it must be folded a bit and fixed by hand in the next EVA.

MW, I'm think it is as bad as it looks, not just because of the sunlight. 3 bays, with the hole in the panel...only way it could really be worse is if it had split.

Yes, it is pretty ugly.

I'm not sure what the current paths are in the array, so cannot guess what the power generation impact might be.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I don't have real good resolution on my realplayer connection. Can people with actual TV see if that an area where one of the cables runs through grommets? Is that the side that they had to jiggle the wiring on the panel edges to get the covers closed when they folded it up?

It does look bad.

The question is when did this damage happen? what is the cause? Can the solar array still be unfolded leave it as is? Will this torn develop in the future? Can it be fixed?
