I just noticed the countdown clock on NASA TV is about 45 sec behind the one the NASA website. I hope the web stream isn't actually that far behind!

CNN/MSNBC had NO coverage.
Fox carried the last 10 minutes live, but with bad information. They said the launch window had been extended to 10 minutes implying a launch as late as 9:47 which we all know is not true. They did not realize that the scheduled launch time was at the midpoint of the 10 minute window. Heck, at least they covered it with the launch clock in the background.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Man, Fox had the only (therefore best coverage)
I feel so slimey!
I wonder if they would have done a "Was the Launch a Hoax?" special afterward ?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. No precip here, might have actually had a shot to see it if the shuttle launched.
50.2 degrees at 12:30 PM, currently 26.1 with howling winds.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Actually on the contrary, I was switching back and forth between NASA TV and News Channel 13 (which had a whole hour dedicated to the 'shuttle launch') The only thing that really disappointed me was that neither channels have closed captioning. I'm deaf so I had no idea what was going on, but when the clock stopped at T-5:00, I realized it was going to be scrubbed.

I've seen numerous launches from Kissimmee and Orlando, so I would say you could see the launches quite far west, but probably not from floridas west coast .. obviously because the earth is round.

Anyways, NASA TV needs captioning pronto.

Is it possible to do captioning with live TV? Some voice to text thing? We all know how well that works

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

lacuna,

Welcome to the Uplink boards! I am sure that few of the commentators would like to have their words and shrugs put down in print, because so often they are not sure of what is going on, either.

I noticed that NASA now has a launch blog, but I get the impression that the person responsible for it has other duties, as well. I have seen some pretty good commentary on this board a few times during launches, as these geeky types tune into the really advanced communications networks, (at least, they used to. Is the C-band stuff gone?) Any way, this is a pretty good place to keep open during launches.

In regards to some of the stations not covering it live, the weather was so poor that many people who are betting big bucks on whether to carry a shuttle launch live or 'I Love Lucy' decided on the money. These things have launched over 100 times, and there has only been one accident at launch, so there is not a lot of chance of a big bang.
The secret to peace of mind is a short attention span.

Very true. Live voice to text is pretty crappy but it is something. I actually have something at school called rapid text .. someone in california listens to my teacher and types it up for me (realtime, on a laptop) so I'm not missing anything in class. If only captioning could be done as good as that.

I just kind of figured it would be common sense to caption NASA TV. ISS Mission Coverage on NASA TV is actually captioned for the most part, but that's the only thing that's captioned so far.

Very good idea to write them.

If I was around my laptop, I would have been watching this board or spaceflightnow.com but nope.

*squeals* I get excited like a little kid for launches. Am I weird? lol..

When you watch NASA TV online, you get the choice of closed caption feed, or not.
Brian J. Pfeifer http://sabletower.wordpress.com
The Dogsoldier Codex http://www.lulu.com/sabletower

2 questions for y'all then, and yes, I know there are no 100% answers

1) What, in your opinion, is the likelihood of an attempt Sat?

2) If no attempt Sat., how are things looking for a Sunday attempt?
