Yeah, Herring was saying a "faulty card". Sounds like an error message came up on the flight deck though from the comms traffic.

SK

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

ozspace

About 3 years ago I noticed that when the hatch was closed tiles needed to be installed to finish the job. The tiles are attached to a carrier panel and the carrier panel is bolted in place on the hatch. Here's the list of tasks for closing the hatch from padrat's post.

I don't have a drawing, but the hatch has a ring of 18 over-center latches around its inner perimeter. They are connected together by linkage so that all move together. When a T-handle is rotated, the latches engage seats around the hatch opening. Here's how it's done:

-Release the locking pawl which holds the hatch open.
-Lift up on the hatch while slowly swinging it shut.
-Make sure none of the armalon paper is out of place (it shields the thermal barrier seal around the hatch opening and prevents it from rolling under as the hatch seats)
-Insert T-handle into square receptacle; rotate T-handle 385-450 degrees.
-Use inspection mirror to verify lock is set inside hatch.
-Attach leak check kit and perform leak check.
-Remove leak check kit and install carrier panel. The carrier panel seals the opening. It has tiles on the exterior side. 6 bolts secure it to the hatch, and ceramic plugs fill the holes after the bolts are torqued to the proper value.
-Remove armalon paper.
-Close out White Room and depart pad.
padrat post from old Uplink

I was able to see the liftoff! The train was at the station during the liftoff and I got fast connections during that time. Our national railroad company has blessed us with these Italian built Pendolinos which always have some glitches when they are trying to couple two train units together. Luckily the coupling time was just in time to delay our trip at the station so I was able to see the launch. Almost immediately when the train was able to continue its journey the connection broke off 2min 33sec after the liftoff. So I wasn't able to see ET sep, but still I'm happy.

Great launch, "card" issue- some intrumentation loss, no problems. Foam looks good.

The external tank cam is a lot of fun, even more "fireworks" at night. Speaking of night,

nite :)

                            www.watchnasatv.com

                          ONE PERCENT FOR NASA!

Something is going on... they came around for the burn and now are going sideways again.

I wonder if it has to do with the flash evaporator system. Might be for thermal control, I'm trying to see a pattern and last orbit they rolled some too like keeping the belly toward the sun just a bit.

Edit: Argh... they're going backwards again :)
Re: bring back the black

Is there any more information on the RCS thruster issue? I heard about the problem last night when watching the launch, but haven't heard much else about it since.
